Over 140 contestants compete in national horseshoe tourney in ABQ
Over 100 horseshoe pitchers from all ages and across the country participated in the 2026 U.S. Open Horseshoe Regional Championships, which ran from Friday until Sunday at Mariposa Basin Park.
There were 142 contestants from 14 states 鈥 some came as far as Kentucky 鈥 who gave it their all. Among the winners was Albuquerque resident Ken Jones, who won the Class A division of the High Desert Ringers Open on Sunday.
The event was part of the regional championships.
The tournament was organized by the National Horseshoe Pitching Association in partnership with the Albuquerque Sports Commission and New Mexico Horseshoe Club.
Angela Gandy, Albuquerque Sports Commission director of sports development, said she was told the association wants to return to Duke City to host another tournament.
鈥淲e are incredibly thrilled with the event and can鈥檛 wait to welcome them back soon,鈥 she said.
