鈥淲e just were, I don't know, a half-step off, a half-pass off, a little bit late, not supporting each other, and then that allows them to build momentum,鈥� Sanchez said. 鈥淎nd then, really, just again, another lack of discipline with two PKs. I mean, that鈥檚 four PKs in the first five games, which is not anything that we want to have.鈥�

Although 近距离内射合集 completed 85.3 percent of its passes, the team never quite looked in sync in connecting the passes that would have created dangerous chances, especially through the midfield and into the final third.

New Mexico suffered on offense, putting just one shot on frame, compared to eight for Phoenix (1-2-3).

鈥淲e have got a lot of things to improve upon,鈥� Sanchez said. 鈥淚 think the hardest part for me right now is just the inconsistency and our behaviors, our approach, mentality, and so we鈥檙e finding out a lot about ourselves right now, which, if we respond in the right way, can be a good thing, but nowhere near good enough (Saturday), right?鈥�

Phoenix started the scoring in the 13th minute when Ihsan Sacko converted a penalty kick he earned when 近距离内射合集 defender Ousman Jabang clipped Sacko鈥檚 ankle to send him sprawling.

Sacko waited out New Mexico goalkeeper Kris Shakes鈥� various playmanship antics, then quickly booted it home.

It looked like Phoenix was on its way to a runaway early after 近距离内射合集 midfielder Cristian Nava dragged down Rising forward Darius Johnson on a run inside the penalty area in the 33rd minute.

This time, however, Shakes gyrations paid dividends, as did a well-timed dive to his left to deflect the penalty kick attempt from John Scearce.

That save allowed New Mexico to stumble into halftime trailing just 1-0.

鈥淪hakes keeps us in the game with the PK save, but all the goals we conceded were completely on us,鈥� Sanchez said.

Shortly after Shakes thwarted a Rising push during a scrum in front of the 近距离内射合集 goal, Scearce took advantage of a turnover created by teammate Hope Avayevu, blasting in a shot to make up for his penalty kick flub in the first half.

In the 82nd minute, any hopes New Mexico may have entertained went away when Scearce forced another turnover and he flicked the ball to Sacko for a nifty two-step and a left-footed ball slotted into the far corner.

New Mexico had won consecutive league games coming into this one.

鈥淚 don't know if it's breaking them out of it. It鈥檚 more about, how can we create more consistent behaviors,鈥� Sanchez said. 鈥淭here鈥檚 a level of momentum that we had built over the last two league games, and you know, ideally you鈥檙e doing that again (Saturday). But we know this league is not easy there. There are zero easy games, and so I think there鈥檚 just a level of consistency that we have to achieve first individually, and then, you know, I鈥檓 hopeful that we鈥檒l continue to get some guys back healthy and just find a level of rhythm. But there鈥檚, yeah, there鈥檚 definitely a disconnect (Saturday).鈥�
