If there was any question regarding the appeal of a sour beer-themed event in the Land of Enchantment, those concerns were alleviated a year ago.

The second edition of Fête de La Funk was held at Flock of Moons Brewing Co. in Albuquerque, and the weather was not exactly accommodating for a springtime beer festival. That didn’t stop the beer aficionados from turning out to sample a variety of sours, saisons and farmhouse ales created by New Mexican breweries. The event is organized by the New Mexico Brewers Guild.

“Last year, we were kind of nervous to see how it was going to be received because you have an event one year and you’re like, ‘All right, we did it the first year. And then the second year, you’re like, ‘All right, is it going to grow or is it going to kind of stay the same?’ Last year, we definitely saw some growth, and it was pretty much sold out except for like a handful of day of tickets,” Ebbie Edmonston, NMBG executive director, said.

“But it snowed last year. So we were really excited to have a bunch of people come out on a random spring snowstorm, still show up and want to drink this beer.”

According to Edmonston, approximately 175 people attended Fête de La Funk in 2025 — an increase from the 150 that came out for the inaugural event. With that in mind, optimism is running high for the third iteration, which will be held at Keeping Together Brewery & Beverage Garden in Santa Fe from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18.

This year, 14 breweries will be participating. Some have sour-style beers all year long, while others might create something specifically for this occasion.

“I love these styles of beer, so I’m not going to lie: It’s a little bit selfish that I wanted to create this event with the help of some other breweries,” Edmonston said. “I always like to compare (that style of beer) to a lemonade on a hot day. It’s got that tartness and acidity, but it’s also really refreshing.”

Fête de La Funk will also give attendees the chance to visit a relatively new establishment on the New Mexico brewery scene. The Keeping Together facility is a 9,400-square-foot renovated greenhouse, and there’s plenty of plant life around to remind visitors of the building’s roots. The brewery is also well-versed in all things sour. Its flagship beer, The Art of Holding Space, is a table saison. Conditioned with honey, the beer has a 3.2% alcohol by volume content and contains notes of orange, pepper, grass and white flowers.

Keeping Together had a soft launch late last year, but its official grand opening occurred on March 21.

“The host location this year is a pretty well-known nationally as well as internationally sour and saison-style brewer,” Edmonston said. “We really wanted to kind of highlight a new brewery and one that specifically fits this style.”

Those who purchase a ticket will receive a sample from all participating breweries, one full pour of their choice and a commemorative pint glass. The Brasas food truck will be on hand for hungry guests, and DJ Pygar will provide music with a full vinyl set.

“If you haven’t been to Keeping Together, I think you’re going to have a really good time. Definitely bring some sunglasses because you are inside a greenhouse,” Edmonston said. “(And) bring an adventuresome palate because there’s going to be some stuff that maybe you haven’t tried before.”
