Former Project SEARCH student lands dream job at Dion's

Published Modified

Sometimes dreams come true.

In October, Gracie Flanagan was bussing tables at Embassy Suites as part of Project SEARCH, a program dedicated to equipping high school graduates facing intellectual and developmental disabilities with the skills they need for life after high school.

At the time, she said she liked her job. But what she really wanted to do was work at Dion鈥檚, where she could apply the customer service chops she picked up working at the hotel to slinging pizzas.

And for the past couple of months, that鈥檚 exactly what she鈥檚 done.

In an email to the Journal the week Flanagan started her job, Dion鈥檚 Chief of Staff Deena Crawley wrote that after finding out that Flanagan one day hoped to work for the company, staff 鈥渨ent on a mission to track her down鈥 and eventually recruited her.

鈥淲e are thrilled to have her!鈥 Crawley said in the email.

'Best job ever'

Now working at the Dion鈥檚 near Academy and Wyoming NE as a dining room attendant, Flanagan says she鈥檚 loving her new job bussing tables, washing dishes and greeting guests. She likes her boss, and Flanagan鈥檚 mother, Kimberly, said the job has become a great source of pride for the hard-working 21-year-old.

But Gracie鈥檚 favorite part of the job?

鈥淢aking new friends.鈥
