Woman fatally struck by train in Las Cruces
Incident marks second train fatality in less than a year

A woman was struck and killed by a train traveling through Las Cruces late Tuesday night.
Police were dispatched around 11:45 p.m. to the railroad tracks near Brown Road, where a southbound BNSF train struck the woman as she was walking along the railroad tracks, according to a Wednesday news release from the Las Cruces Police Department.
The 35-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. She will not be identified until the next of kin has been notified.
鈥淭he BNSF train came to a stop after the collision and temporarily blocked several intersections while police investigated the incident,鈥� the release states.
The incident was the second within the last year in Las Cruces.
In November 2025, 46-year-old Manuel Jose Aguirre was struck by a train near Main Street, according to previous Journal reporting. First responders found Aguirre unresponsive after suffering from multiple injuries and he was declared dead at the scene.
