On Thursday, UNM announced the first new signing of the Amy Eagan era for the Lobo women’s basketball team.

From Wellington, Kansas, Valerie Norwood is a 5-foot-8 guard who played last season for the Lindenwood Lions — where she played in all 33 games her freshman year, averaging 4.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 17.8 minutes per game.

According to a release from UNM, “Norwood was named Miss Kansas Basketball and named a top-5 girls’ all-state basketball player. … Her senior season, the guard was named the 4A Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year. During her high school career, she averaged 16 points per game, five assists, four steals and five rebounds per game.”

That’s not the only signing for the new head coach — who had her introductory press conference on Wednesday and takes over the program after a ten-year run under Mike Bradbury — who wasted no time in retaining the team’s existing talent.

According to the team’s official X account, @UNMLoboWBB, 6-foot-2 sophomore guard Kaia Foster and 5-foot-11 senior guard Drew Jordon have both announced their intention to return to the Pit next season.

Last season, Foster had 55 total points, 29 rebounds and six blocks for the Lobos. Jordon had 90 points, 46 rebounds, 21 assists and 20 steals.

Earlier this week, Eagan filled out much of her top coaching staff positions, naming Jordan Mellott as Associate Head Coach, Lindsay Ward as Assistant Coach and Makayla Wallace as Director of Operations.
