Christus St. Vincent to break ground this week on new Los Alamos clinic
The 40,000 multi-specialty facility is set to be completed end of next year
Christus St. Vincent will break ground Thursday on a new multi-specialty facility in Los Alamos, more than a year after the health system purchased the site where it will be built.
The move will transform the former Knights of Columbus site at 401 Trinity Drive into a nearly 40,000-square-foot building to house services ranging from emergency and surgical care to diagnostics.
The $50 million facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, health officials said.
鈥淚t鈥檚 quite a process, obviously, but it鈥檚 a fun time to really get to celebrate as a team for the formal kickoff,鈥� said Hope Wade, the chief operating officer of Christus St. Vincent.
The two-floor facility will include an endoscopy suite for gastrointestinal procedures, an on-site laboratory and pharmacy services and an infusion center for cancer care.
The clinic will mark Christus鈥� second in Los Alamos, home to one of the state鈥檚 national laboratories that employs thousands of workers. It has one clinic in the area that offers sports medicine and primary care services, as well as a rotation of specialists.
But the new facility 鈥渨ill allow us to bring a larger offering of services to the community, which will then allow for additional excellent care close to home,鈥� Wade said.
Christus, a division of the Irving, Texas-based Christus Health, has been expanding in recent months 鈥� including the June opening of its first primary care clinic in Albuquerque. The health system also opened an $80 million cancer center in Santa Fe last year.
Wade said Santa Fe has long been the closest town for patients in Los Alamos, a gap the new location will help bridge.
鈥淚t鈥檚 going to be beautiful,鈥� Wade said, 鈥渁nd we鈥檙e just so excited to be able to bring high-quality care to the Los Alamos community and the patients who live in Los Alamos.鈥�
