What steps do you believe should be taken to improve New Mexico's economic competitiveness?

Better schools, higher educator pay, apprenticeship access, support collective bargaining, tax relief for working families, and infrastructure that supports long distance travel, including rail. We need to also diversify into growing fields, engineering, healthcare, labs, etc. These are solutions my opponent has opposed or been absent for.

New Mexico is the only state that does not pay its legislators a salary, though lawmakers do receive per diem payments and can qualify for a legislative pension. Do you support or oppose the proposed constitutional amendment calling for a new legislative salary tied to the median family income level?

Support. It will give working and middle-class folks an opportunity to serve in office and support their families. Otherwise, our representation is dominated by the wealthy and lobbyists. Laws that hold paid lobbyists accountable can鈥檛 pass currently; my opponent voted against this twice because she鈥檚 beholden to them. HB143/HB164 (2025/2026).

With New Mexico now the nation鈥檚 second-highest oil producing state, would you support or oppose changes to the state鈥檚 gross receipts tax and personal income tax structures? Please explain.

I support lowering income taxes for everyday New Mexicans, increasing taxes on the wealthy and large corporations. New Mexico鈥檚 mineral wealth should benefit New Mexicans, and I support bills like the Oil & Gas Royalty Rate Changes, SB23 (2025), which increases school funding, and which my opponent voted against.

Would you support or oppose imposing water use limits on data centers? In addition, would you generally support or oppose banning data centers in New Mexico?

I support water use limits on data centers. When I worked as a legislative analyst at the Roundhouse, I was assigned to conservation and water issues, which reinforced for me that water is our most precious natural resource. Any potential data center projects in our state (like Project Jupiter) should adhere to clear water-use limits.

Amid a recent string of high-profile criminal cases involving juvenile defendants, do you support or oppose imposing stricter sentences for adolescents convicted of certain violent crimes?

I support a careful evaluation of current sentencing guidelines, and I support measures to deter crime, like youth jobs programs, after school activities, and others. As a mediator, I support ADR programs for juveniles and adults.

Would you support or oppose a ban on selling certain types of firearms, including semiautomatic firearms and machine guns?

I support a ban on selling certain types of firearms, including semi-automatic firearms, and machine guns. I鈥檓 a mother of two children that are attending public schools in the district. Every day I worry about my children鈥檚 safety. We need to do everything we can to protect our children.

Do you support or oppose using New Mexico鈥檚 National Guard to assist local law enforcement with issues related to public safety?

It depends on the circumstances and the role(s) the National Guard is assigned. For example, I oppose President Trump and the federal government using the National Guard against the wishes of state governors and to federalize National Guard members to break up peaceful protests.

What changes would you propose to improve New Mexico鈥檚 Children, Youth and Families Department?

As someone who has represented CYFD-involved children and families, CYFD needs an overhaul. We need to pay employees more, build stronger pipelines from higher education into CYFD jobs, and consider alternative leadership. Note: My opponent campaigns on fixing CYFD yet she hasn鈥檛 passed a single sponsored bill to do so.

What steps should be taken to bring New Mexico into compliance with the 2018 court ruling that found New Mexico is failing to provide a sufficient education to all students?

Programs like free school lunches, universal childcare, and New Mexico PreK will improve our childhood outcomes over time. I support smaller class sizes, inclusive curricula, and adequate HVAC and facilities, especially to support Martinez-Yazzie populations. My opponent routinely opposes or is absent for education bills to support our kids.

New Mexico has seen a string of devastating wildfires and floods in recent years. What policy steps, if any, should the state take to address these natural disasters?

Many bills related to natural disasters failed this year. We need stronger wildfire loss mitigation requirements for utilities, reliable wildfire response funding, more funds for home-hardening grants, and assistance for homeowners facing insurance cancellation or post-wildfire flooding. We also should invest in making infrastructure and communities more resilient.

Would you support or oppose a paid family and medical leave program that would require most employees and employers to pay into a state-run fund?

Support. My opponent will say anything to get elected. She has even said she sponsored PFML but the reality is she鈥檚 voted against it every time. PFML isn鈥檛 the only healthcare-related reform she voted against, she voted against paid sick leave during COVID and to lower prescription drug prices, etc. HB11/HB78/HB20 (2025/2025/2021).

Have you or your business, if you are a business owner, ever been the subject of any state or federal tax liens?

No

Have you ever been arrested for, charged with, or convicted of drunken driving, any misdemeanor or any felony in New Mexico or any other state? If so, explain.

No

Have you ever been involved in a personal or business bankruptcy proceeding?

No
