What steps do you believe should be taken to improve New Mexico's economic competitiveness?

Reform the New Mexico tax code to get away from a Gross Receipts Tax and implement Right to Work. Implement regulatory reform to make it cheaper for our businesses to be more competitive and to attract more business to come to the state.

New Mexico is the only state that does not pay its legislators a salary, though lawmakers do receive per diem payments and can qualify for a legislative pension. Do you support or oppose the proposed constitutional amendment calling for a new legislative salary tied to the median family income level?

I oppose the constitutional amendment because the salary level proposed is way too high and is based on a work comparison that is not equivalent.

With New Mexico now the nation鈥檚 second-highest oil producing state, would you support or oppose changes to the state鈥檚 gross receipts tax and personal income tax structures? Please explain.

I support eliminating the gross receipts tax in favor of a lower and more broad based sales tax and I support reducing or eliminating the personal income tax. Let's try attracting people to this state instead of encouraging them to leave which is what we are doing now.

Would you support or oppose imposing water use limits on data centers? In addition, would you generally support or oppose banning data centers in New Mexico?

I support data centers in New Mexico and expect that their presence here would help to instigate better, more efficient and effective uses of water and energy. They need those resources in order to exist and they will find ways to produce them. I'm thinking small, modular nuclear reactors here.

Amid a recent string of high-profile criminal cases involving juvenile defendants, do you support or oppose imposing stricter sentences for adolescents convicted of certain violent crimes?

One of the primary functions of government is keeping our people and communities safe. I support imposing stricter sentences on anyone engaging in violent crime. The peaceful and law abiding citizens should not be subjected to this current nonsense anymore.

Would you support or oppose a ban on selling certain types of firearms, including semiautomatic firearms and machine guns?

The legality of owning a machine gun is already a tightly regulated process so, no. I support an American's right to defend himself, family and property guaranteed in the Second Amendment.

Do you support or oppose using New Mexico鈥檚 National Guard to assist local law enforcement with issues related to public safety?

Unfortunately, left wing political leaders have made a mockery of the practice of law enforcement in this state and examples are plentiful. From political hires like Chief Medina to actually attacking immigration law enforcement, crime in our communities is out of control. I support using the National Guard.

What changes would you propose to improve New Mexico鈥檚 Children, Youth and Families Department?

The employees of CYFD have an impossible job and they are overwhelmed by the number of children that need better parents. CYFD is designed to fail because it has too many responsibilities. Electing a governor and state legislature that is not democrat would be a good place to start.

What steps should be taken to bring New Mexico into compliance with the 2018 court ruling that found New Mexico is failing to provide a sufficient education to all students?

The 2018 court ruling is just further evidence that democrats are failing the citizens of this state when it comes to everything, not just education. New Mexico is dead last in education and has been for many years. Competition makes things better, it's time for school choice.

New Mexico has seen a string of devastating wildfires and floods in recent years. What policy steps, if any, should the state take to address these natural disasters?

The best policy is to put competent people in charge that are actually interested in doing the job. Most of the time, we already have good policies that are managed by incompetent democrats who say we need better policies to replace those that the democrats already failed at.

Would you support or oppose a paid family and medical leave program that would require most employees and employers to pay into a state-run fund?

I oppose the actions of the state to raise the cost of business without some other type of action that is going to mitigate their costs or improve their employee pool. All we see now is government adding to the cost of business, not reducing it.

Have you or your business, if you are a business owner, ever been the subject of any state or federal tax liens?

Not that I'm aware of.

Have you ever been arrested for, charged with, or convicted of drunken driving, any misdemeanor or any felony in New Mexico or any other state? If so, explain.

No

Have you ever been involved in a personal or business bankruptcy proceeding?

No
