A screaming good time: Morgue & Krypt Horror Fest a frightening forum of all things macabre
Ghouls, killer clowns and monsters are just a few of the scary things guests can see at the Morgue & Krypt Horror Fest.
Since 2011, Bethany and Jeffrey Sedden have been touring horror festivals across the country. Over time, they realized how much money and effort it took to attend each festival and decided they would bring the horror to Albuquerque.

The Morgue & Krypt Horror Fest returns for its second year. It takes place Friday, Sept. 27, through Sunday, Sept. 29, at Isleta Resort and Casino, 11000 Broadway Blvd SE.
鈥淭here鈥檚 actually a really huge horror community here and that鈥檚 exactly what we were looking for, to get involved with that and help that grow and make a horror community family here,鈥 Bethany Sedden said.
鈥淲e鈥檝e gotten to know people on a personal basis and it does kind of turn into a family, and it brings people together for a weekend where you鈥檙e with your people,鈥 added Jeffrey Sedden. 鈥淲e鈥檙e local like everyone else, we鈥檙e not a big corporation. We鈥檙e just a group of fans who want to put a good show on for New Mexicans.鈥
The horror fest is an all encompassing event, celebrating all things spooky.
鈥淲e鈥檙e a fan-con that鈥檚 dedicated to just the horror genre and all of the subcultures that fit under it,鈥 Jeffrey Sedden said.
The convention will showcase a variety of horror-related vendors and celebrities from popular horror films and shows. Fans can expect to see people like Denis O鈥橦are from 鈥淎merican Horror Story,鈥 Bill Moseley from 鈥淭exas Chainsaw Massacre 2,鈥 Linnea Quigley from 鈥淩eturn of the Living Dead鈥 and more.
Guests will have the opportunity to meet horror celebrities and snap a photo with them. Guests can also bring horror memorabilia for celebrities to sign, though it is up to each person how much autographs cost. Printed photos will also be available for people who do not have merchandise for celebrity guests to sign.
On Friday, Sept. 27, visitors to the festival will have the chance to watch 13 feature films and three short films from local and upcoming filmmakers to find their next macabre obsession. Fans can also watch 鈥淩eturn of the Living Dead鈥 screenings.
Though horror festivals might not sound like a place for children, kids are more than welcome to attend the event and be part of a special children-only cosplay contest category.
鈥淜ids are huge horror fans too,鈥 said Bethany Sedden. 鈥淲e鈥檝e met a bunch of kids who love to cosplay and put on their costumes a little early and love the movies from 鈥楰iller Clowns鈥 to 鈥楳onster Squad.鈥 We give them another platform to do all of that and get involved.鈥
After hours on Friday, Sept. 27, and Saturday, Sept. 28, guests can attend the 鈥淯ndead After Dark Afterparty鈥 featuring Emo Night Live, DJ Riff Raff and DJ Bat Boy on Sept. 27, and Illegal Aliens, Nocturne, 12 Step Rebels and Sorry Guero on Sept. 28. The party is open to all ticket holders and will go from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. both days. Guests who have purchased a VIP ticket will have access to a special VIP party.
On Saturday, Sept. 28, and Sunday, Sept. 29, test your trivia knowledge with the 鈥淐urse Your Luck鈥 game show hosted by Death Curse Society, followed by a guest panel with them.
Fans who love horror, so much that they want it engraved on them, will have access to four tattoo artists from Archetype Tattoo parlor. The artists will be onsite all three days to take care of anyone鈥檚 eerie ink needs.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not scary in and of itself and we try to focus on what we have to offer locally ... whether you鈥檙e the hardcore horror fan or the seasonal spooky fan or just going to see somebody because they were in something else, there鈥檚 something for everybody,鈥 Jeffrey Sedden said.
