Taos Chamber Music Group to perform works by Hispanic, Latino composers

The Taos Chamber Music Group is offering a tapas menu of Hispanic and Latino composers.
Slated for Saturday, Nov. 2, and Sunday, Nov. 3, the concerts will take place at the Harwood Museum of Art.
Titled 鈥淰iaje Especial,鈥� the show features the music of composers from Spain, Argentina, Brazil and Cuba from the early 20th century.
鈥淭hey might not be well-known in the classical world, but one of the composers was the precursor to the tango,鈥� said Pam Morris, executive director.
Spanish composer Joaquin Turina鈥檚 鈥淧iano Quartet in A minor, Op. 67鈥� inspired the program.
Turina studied in Spain and in Paris. His compositional style was heavily influenced by the Impressionist composers Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy. Turina spent his later years teaching composition at the Madrid Royal Conservatory, and his pieces promoted the national character of Spanish music.
Other compositions that will be part of the program are: Astor Piazzolla (1887-1959), Oblivion (1944) (arr. by V. Gryaznov for piano quintet, adapted for piano quartet by L. Chang and E. Baker); Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959), Duo for Violin and Viola (1946); Joaqu铆n Nin (1879-1949), Suite Espagnole pour violon et piano (1929); and Manuel de Falla (1876-1946), Suite Populaire Espagnole (1914).
The performance will feature Elizabeth Baker on violin, Laura Chang on viola, Sally Guenther on cello and Vicki Ray on piano.
