Michael Colbert knows how to work under pressure.

As the executive producer of 鈥淎 Capitol Fourth: 250th Weekend Celebration,鈥� he is aware that millions of Americans tune in to celebrate America鈥檚 independence.

During this year鈥檚 show, there鈥檚 the added pressure of celebrating America鈥檚 250th anniversary.

鈥淭wo hundred and fifty,鈥� Colbert says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 such a historic milestone. What a time to celebrate and bring joy to our country. We love this time of year.鈥�

Taking on this role has become a family tradition, his father 鈥�

Jerry Colbert 鈥� started the 鈥淐apitol Fourth鈥� series in 1981.

鈥淵ou have to get it right,鈥� Colbert says. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 always been our goal.鈥�

This year, 鈥淎 Capitol Fourth: 250th Weekend Celebration鈥� is a live broadcast from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol at 8 p.m. Friday, July 3. The broadcast will be shown via New Mexico PBS, channel 5.1. It will also be available to stream on the PBS app.

New Mexico PBS is taking on a bigger role this year as the station that distributes the program across the country.

Suzanne Kembel, NMPBS director of station operations, says the National Park Service wasn鈥檛 able to distribute the show this year and NMPBS stepped in.

鈥淢ost people aren鈥檛 aware that NMPBS is not only able to do it, but we do hundreds of hours of content and programs and distribute it to the rest of the country,鈥� Kembel says. 鈥淲e have a well-oiled machine here and are able to step in when we need to.鈥�

In addition to the fireworks and performances, Colbert says country music icon Trace Adkins will make the exclusive television debut of his brand-new song 鈥淎merican Made,鈥� an uplifting anthem honoring the patriotism, ideals and contributions of generations of Americans.

鈥淚 have been fortunate enough to have played a small part in several of the 鈥楢 Capitol Fourth鈥� celebrations over my career,鈥� Adkins says in a statement. 鈥淏ut to be invited to join the 250th birthday of our great country is an honor beyond all others.鈥�

Colbert says to mark the nation鈥檚 250th birthday, the finale will feature live fireworks over George Washington鈥檚 Mount Vernon.

鈥淭he fireworks will be the biggest display ever at the iconic home of America鈥檚 first president,鈥� Colbert says. 鈥淲hat we鈥檝e created is a family tradition. This year, we鈥檙e broadcasting a day early to kick off the celebration.鈥�

Colbert says John Adams talked about Independence Day as our nation鈥檚 North Star.

鈥淲e researched it, and what people did was come together on July Fourth in joy and celebration,鈥� Colbert says. 鈥淲e are trying to offer people a time to celebrate who we are as a nation.鈥�

In addition to 鈥淐apitol Fourth,鈥� New Mexico PBS will also air 鈥淎merica Made In Virginia: 250 Years Together,鈥� at 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday, July 4.

The two-hour program pays tribute to America鈥檚 semiquincentennial with live performances, historic interpretation, music, narration and large-scale visual spectacle that honors the past, engages the present, and helps inspire America鈥檚 future.

鈥淎merica Made In Virginia鈥� will feature Ken Burns, Judy Collins, Michael Feinstein, Ryan Speedo Green, Kelli O鈥橦ara, Richard Thomas, Adrienne Warren, Leah Glenn Dance Theatre, Virginia Chorale and more.

The show culminates with a fireworks and drone display set to a patriotic score performed by the 近距离内射合集 States Air Force Heritage of America Band.
