Eldorado gets its first win of 2026 鈥� and just in time
The Eagles opened District 2-6A play with a 52-28 victory, while Bloomfield, Rio Rancho and St. Michael鈥檚 also won Saturday.
It took four games, but the Eldorado Eagles finally picked up their first win of the prep football season on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles put up 38 points in the first half, and they routed previously undefeated Organ Mountain (3-1) 52-28 at a sweltering Field of Dreams in a District 2-6A opener for both teams.
鈥淲e needed a win,鈥� Eldorado coach Charlie Dotson said. 鈥淲e couldn鈥檛 lose this game.鈥�
The Eagles (1-2-1) had a lopsided loss to La Cueva to open the season, followed by a crazy overtime tie with Albuquerque High, and then a gutting double-OT defeat last week to Sandia.
Senior wide receiver Jahari Morehead scored multiple touchdowns in the victory for the Eagles, who scored the first 28 points of this game 鈥� four touchdowns and a safety.
BLOOMFIELD 35, MANZANO 6: At Wilson Stadium, the two-time defending Class 4A state champion Bobcats (3-1, 2-0 in 1-4A) rode a strong defense on a hot day to defeat the Monarchs (1-3, 1-1).
Bloomfield scored the game鈥檚 first 19 points.
Quarterback Wyatt Babcock opened the scoring with a 5-yard run. Tayetum Callado鈥檚 78-yard pick-6 upped the lead to 13-0 early in the second quarter.
A TD pass from Babcock to Cable Carruth stretched the advantage to 19-0. Manzano鈥檚 only score came just before halftime.
Babcock added another short rushing score in the second half.
Sophomore Questin Ellis carried 14 times for 121 yards for the Bobcats, and the Bloomfield defense surrendered less than 100 yards to Manzano.
RIO RANCHO 58, ATRISCO HERITAGE 13: At Nusenda Community Stadium, the Rams (2-2) cruised past the Jaguars (1-3) in a District 1-6A opener.
Senior quarterback Micah Takahashi threw three touchdown passes for the Rams, and he also ran in for a score.
Gilly Terrazas had a big day on the perimeter for Rio Rancho, catching all three of Takahashi鈥檚 scoring passes.
The Rio Rancho defense also contributed, with sophomore Carter Manning returning an interception 83 yards for a touchdown. The Rams had consistent success rushing the quarterback on Saturday.
NOTE: St. Michael鈥檚 blanked Kirtland Central 53-0 on Saturday in Santa Fe. It is the Horsemen鈥檚 37th consecutive victory.
