George Strait, the 鈥淜ing of Country Music,鈥� has been announced as the headliner for the newly expanded event at Balloon Fiesta Park.
Joining Strait at the three-day festival on May 14-16, 2027, are Jason Aldean, Brooks & Dunn, Zach Top and Jon Pardi.
Strait, who will turn 75 on May 18, just days after the concerts, will be performing in New Mexico for the first time in more than a decade, and Boots in the Park will be his first festival performance since 2021.
The news of George Strait's upcoming show in Albuquerque got Journal Digital Editor Lucas Peerman thinking about the celebrities he's interviewed. 鈥淣ew Mexico, it鈥檚 been way too long,鈥� Strait said in a news release, referring to his last performance in Albuquerque in 2013. 鈥淲hile I鈥檓 not sure where else this next year will take us, I do know we can鈥檛 wait to see everyone at Boots In The Park next May.鈥�
A shared post from Boots in the Park on Strait鈥檚 Instagram said, 鈥淕eorge Strait is returning to New Mexico one final time!鈥�
Strait has played multiple concerts in New Mexico, including a stop at Tingley Coliseum in April 1989 with The Ace in the Hole Band. A review in the Journal said, 鈥淪trait, one of the most popular country-and-western acts going, was a hit machine as he churned out the old favorites and new tunes from his latest release, 鈥淏eyond the Blue Neon.鈥�
In February 2007, he played at the Pan American Center in Las Cruces, where an up-and-coming artist named Taylor Swift opened.
Strait is the only Country Music Hall of Fame member to have a Top 10 hit every year for three decades. He鈥檚 known for his hits 鈥淎marillo by Morning,鈥� 鈥淐heck Yes or No鈥� and 鈥淭roubadour.鈥�
Strait isn鈥檛 the only country superstar in a lineup that, according to Boots in the Park, celebrates 鈥渢hree generations of country music.鈥�
Aldean was named the Academy of Country Music Artist of the Decade in 2019 and has 32 career No. 1s, including 鈥淒irt Road Anthem鈥� and 鈥淪he's Country,鈥� selling more than 20 million albums.
Brooks & Dunn are the bestselling country duo in music history, with 20 No. 1 hits, including 鈥淏oot Scootin' Boogie,鈥� 鈥淣eon Moon鈥� and 鈥淟ittle Miss Honky Tonk,鈥� and over 30 million albums sold.
