Set against the mountainous backdrop of Taos, the fourth annual She Rises Music Festival is back, showcasing a lineup of women artists.

鈥淚 think that She Rises has really found its feet as to what exactly it is as a music festival and as a mission-driven festival,鈥� Andrea Magee, festival founder, said.

She Rises, which runs from Thursday, July 16, through Saturday, July 18, moved to Daleee at KTAOS Solar Center last year. Magee said it was a great move.

鈥淲e鈥檙e right in front of the mountains in Taos,鈥� Magee said. 鈥淪o it just made it that little bit more spectacular, and I think the festival just blossomed in the environment.

Primarily, she said, the festival is mission-driven, fundraising for Music Helps, an organization focusing on the transformative power of music for children. She Rises highlights women artists, and Magee said there are always new artists to bring into the sisterhood.

鈥淥ur goal is just to uplift women in the music industry and give them a platform, create a community and a family where everybody feels like they belong,鈥� Magee said, 鈥渁nd that鈥檚 exactly what鈥檚 happened every year, and I feel like it鈥檚 just getting better and better and better.鈥�

Magee said the idea for She Rises was born after she attended Brandi Carlile鈥檚 鈥淕irls Just Wanna Weekend鈥� in Mexico. Standing in the audience and watching Carlile open doors for artists was a beautiful and inspiring thing, she said.

鈥淚 just witnessed the power of the energy there, and I just thought to myself, this needs to be happening more,鈥� Magee said.

She Rises started out pretty big, but she realized that keeping it small and intimate means more. Attendance is capped at 800 to 1,000 people to maintain intimacy. Magee loves that it allows her and others to deeply connect with the artists and the music.

Magee said she feels like the world is craving closeness rather than big festivals.

When creating the lineup, She Rises focuses on eclectic and diverse genres, including country, bluegrass, Americana and more.

This year鈥檚 lineup includes Jaimee Harris, Ruthie Foster and Carly Jo Jackson.

鈥淚t鈥檚 just a real mix of everything,鈥� Magee said, 鈥渁nd we just keep the standard really high.鈥�

After last year鈥檚 festival, Magee said she has honed the vision of exactly what she wants She Rises to be.

鈥淚 wanted to keep it obviously female frontrunners, but just something that would appeal to everybody and would be inspirational,鈥� Magee said, 鈥渁nd these artists have a really positive message to give across.鈥�

Performing is not the only way the artists help in the festival, she said. Many come ready to roll up their sleeves and get everything off the ground, she said.

鈥淭hat鈥檚 why this festival has blossomed ...,鈥� Magee said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 through the community effort.鈥�

She said She Rises brings in Taos youth and other young performers to uplift and inspire. The festival is free for those 16 and under and includes a play area called 鈥淲e Rises鈥� for families with children.

鈥淚 really want the younger generations to come and feel this supportive community that we鈥檙e building,鈥� Magee said. 鈥淏ecause that鈥檚 where I feel like change can be made in the world, in a grander scale, is through experiences with our youth.鈥�
