Grab the cowboy hats and polish up the boots, it鈥檚 time for one of the largest country festivals in New Mexico.

Post Malone and Jelly Roll will headline Boots in the Park this year, and the lineup includes 23 other artists, including native New Mexican Bri Bagwell.

鈥淚鈥檓 a Texas country artist, but I鈥檓 also from New Mexico,鈥 Bagwell said.

Bagwell said what makes her a Texas country artist is, to her, the genre is not bound by rules or by the need to sound like someone else. She said she is a mix of traditional country and rock 鈥檔鈥 roll, which comes from growing up listening to artists like Johnny Cash and Fleetwood Mac.

She throws in a bit of New Mexico by singing in Spanish and said she will be performing in both English and Spanish at Boots in the Park.

鈥淚 know that I will be singing a lot of originals,鈥 Bagwell said, along with old-school country covers.

Bagwell said being part of the lineup is an honor and something she has been working toward.

It鈥檚 crazy when people say their hometowns aren鈥檛 supportive of their careers, she said, adding Las Cruces has been rooting for her her whole life.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 know if it鈥檚 just because I鈥檓 out here on the highways, chasing my dreams and really going after it as an independent artist,鈥 Bagwell said. 鈥淟ike maybe New Mexicans just identify with somebody who isn鈥檛 afraid to follow their dreams.鈥

While Bagwell is new to Boots in the Park, Presley Tennant has performed at the event in other states. She said it gives artists exposure, and after her set, she enjoys mingling with the crowd.

鈥淚t鈥檚 really cool to kind of build that connection and friendship with these people that support me,鈥 Tennant said, 鈥渁nd it means the absolute world.鈥

Her journey with Boots in the Park began when she was invited to sing the national anthem. She gradually became more involved until she was part of the lineup.

Tennant said the atmosphere is incredible. The crowds at the festival feel fully present, she said, and they have been able to push aside issues in their lives for a moment to enjoy and listen to the music.

鈥淚f there鈥檚 one thing about music, it brings everyone together,鈥 Tennant said.

Randy Rogers, lead singer of the Randy Rogers Band, said events with diverse lineups, like Boots in the Park, give musicians exposure to new fans.

鈥淚t鈥檚 like all the different artists that are on it, we get to get in front of their crowds too, and maybe turn some heads,鈥 Rogers said.

He said the band has played Albuquerque for many years, each time in different ways, at different venues and for different people. Festivals like Boots in the Park, he said, bring like-minded people together to share and experience the music.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a celebration of all different types of music with the same commonality that music means something to everybody that鈥檚 there,鈥 Rogers said.
