Opera, ABQ鈥檚 birthday and the Great New Mexico Food Truck and Craft Beverage Festival: 7 events this week

Making an Exodus

Opera Southwest is staging 鈥淢os猫 in Egitto (Moses in Egypt)鈥 in three performances 鈥 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19, 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26. The 1818 opera by Gioachino Rossini will be sung in Italian with English titles. 鈥淢os猫 in Egitto鈥 follows the Israelites鈥 exodus from Egypt led by Moses, combined with Rossini鈥檚 addition of a love story between the pharaoh鈥檚 son and an Israelite woman. Tickets are $29-$109 at operasouthwest.org, with discounts for qualified individuals.

鈥楢rt as a conversation鈥

Oliver Prezant and The Opus OP Trio will be creating music based on Piper Leigh鈥檚 installation of dresses at 鈥淒iscovering the Music of Ancestors, Mothers, Muses鈥 at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 18. The musical interpretations of the garments will be based on audience impressions of dresses 鈥渢hat depict meaningful aspects of women鈥檚 lives.鈥 Tickets are $10-$25 at oliverprezant.com/upcoming-events. The Mu帽oz Waxman Gallery at the Center for Contemporary Arts is located at 1050 Old Pecos Trail in Santa Fe.

A devil of a time

鈥淭he Screwtape Letters,鈥 C.S. Lewis鈥 novel about 鈥渟piritual warfare from a demon鈥檚 point of view," is coming to Popejoy Hall at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19. Tickets are $78-$119 at unmtickets.evenue.net. Popejoy Hall is located on the University of New Mexico campus.

Feliz cumplea帽os

Celebrate the 320th birthday of Albuquerque at the Founder鈥檚 Day event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturady, April 18, at the Old Town Gazebo, 200 N. Plaza St. NW. The event will feature face painting, live performances from Baila! Baila! Ballet Folklorico, Mariachi Xochitl and Severo y Group Fuego, food trucks, pet adoption, a parade of the ancestors and more.

The Great New Mexico Food Truck & Craft Beverage Festival is heading to Balloon Fiesta Park from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 18. The lineup includes food trucks like Loaded Lemon, Kimo鈥檚 Hawaiian BBQ and Taqueria Azteca, and breweries will include Steel Bender Brewyard, Boxing Bear Brewing Co. and Little Toad Creek Brewery & Distillery. Tickets start at $7.05 at foodtruckfestivalsofamerica.com/albuquerque. Balloon Fiesta Park is located at 9401 Balloon Museum Drive NE.

Celebrating Earth Day

The Jemez Historic Site is hosting an Earth Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18. The event includes a hike, traditional children鈥檚 games, Native arts and crafts vendors and more. The event is included with regular admission, $7 for adults, and free for children 16 years and younger, people with Native/Tribal affiliations, N.M. disabled veterans, and N.M. foster families at nmhistoricsites.org/jemez. The Jemez Historic Site is located at 18160 New Mexico Highway 4 in Jemez Springs.

Having the blues

To鈥檋ajilee blues artist Levi Platero (Din茅) will be performing with his band in a Music in Corrales event at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door at musicincorrales.org. The Historic Old San Ysidro Church is located at 966 Old Church Road in Corrales.
