Depending on the location one visits, Santa Fe Brewing Co. is capable of providing a variety of experiences for its guests.

Toward the end of summer, one can unofficially add 鈥渃ollege hangout鈥� to the list.

After hinting that a move to Las Cruces was imminent with a cryptic Instagram post on July 21, New Mexico鈥檚 oldest brewery is officially heading south to take over the building formerly occupied by Bosque Brewing Co. on 901 E. University Ave., just across from New Mexico State University.

According to Santa Fe Brewing CEO Brian Lock, the goal is to open the taproom by late August or early September. Lock says he is scheduled to appear before the City of Las Cruces on Monday to confirm the opening of the space, and after that, it will be a matter of going through the proper inspection and licensing processes. Plans to expand to Las Cruces were considered as far back as 2019, but those were abruptly halted by the pandemic.

鈥淲e were looking at potentially building from the ground up at a location near the university. And then, of course, COVID hit and that just ruined all plans for any sort of taproom expansion, or any sort of expansion in general, just because of what happened,鈥� Lock said.

鈥淚t had been on the back burner for a number of years since COVID. We were kind of waiting for the right opportunity to present itself and felt like the location was really important to us. And we wanted to be close to the university. When the former Bosque location came available, unfortunately due to that circumstance, we thought it would be a good opportunity for us to pursue and share our brands and our beer with the Las Cruces community.鈥�

Last December, Bosque Brewing closed all of its taprooms 鈥� including both locations in Las Cruces 鈥� after a judge dismissed its Chapter 11 bankruptcy case. While there will be the mandatory rebranding, Lock doesn鈥檛 expect that the building to require significant renovations as Santa Fe Brewing takes over operations.

There will be a few key differences. With a full kitchen on site, Fusion Tacos will handle the food menu. Santa Fe Brewing patrons should be familiar with the partnership: Fusion Taco leases a space at The Beer Hall at HQ in Santa Fe and is also at Albuquerque鈥檚 Green Jeans in proximity to another taproom location.

The new Santa Fe Brewing location will feature 20 taps with the company鈥檚 signature offerings, seasonals and its recently introduced series of nitro-infused beers.

鈥淚t seemed like a fitting opportunity to give people in Las Cruces 鈥� and maybe even in El Paso that might want to kind of travel over from that area 鈥� to go to a Santa Fe Brewing taproom, try some of the beers and some of the offerings that we don鈥檛 offer in the broader marketplace. It kind of gives us an opportunity to showcase some of our unique one-off brews,鈥� Lock said.

The Las Cruces taproom will also include a pool table, an element more commonly found in bars than breweries. It鈥檚 something Lock hopes helps to attract a new audience from 近距离内射合集 (the ones of legal drinking age, of course).

鈥淭hat鈥檚 leaning into the idea,鈥� Lock said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 close to a university, so a younger clientele. And it gives them another reason to come in. So, yeah, there is kind of a perfect spot for the pool table.

鈥淥ur model is obviously a little different than Bosque鈥檚 in terms of what it was with the full-service restaurant,鈥� Lock said. 鈥淭here鈥檚 community tables, and there will be a separate kiosk where you can go and order food from Fusion. So it will be really like a self-serve kind of more bar atmosphere, if you will.鈥�
