Steven L. Davis to discuss new history book at SOMOS, Books on the Bosque
Lynn C. Miller and Nancy J. Allen to talk on June 25 at Bookworks
AUTHOR IN TAOS AND IN ALBUQUERQUE
Steven L. Davis will discuss his new history book 鈥淏eating Heart of the World鈥� at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 26, at SOMOS Salon in Taos.
He will be in conversation with Vernon Geronimo Lujan and Diane Reyna.
At noon Sunday, June 28, Davis will be at Books on the Bosque in Albuquerque to talk and sign copies of his book.
The book, subtitled 鈥淭he Taos Art Colony, The Pueblo Resistance, and the Battle for Indigenous America,鈥� tells about the decades-long fight by Taos Pueblo to regain control over Blue Lake, which it has held sacred for centuries.
The Pueblo found allies in Taos鈥� arts community, including Mabel Dodge Luhan, D.H. Lawrence and Georgia O'Keeffe, and in as social reformer John Collier. President Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed Collier as commissioner of Indian Affairs on the recommendation of Taos Pueblo鈥檚 leaders.
Davis lives in Albuquerque.

AT COLLECTED WORKS
Miriam Horn will discuss her new biography 鈥淗omesick for a World Unknown: The Life of George B. Schaller鈥� at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at the Santa Fe bookstore.
Schaller is considered by many the world鈥檚 preeminent field biologist.
Horn鈥檚 book captures the 70 years Schaller has spent living among wild animals in the remotest regions, including mountain gorillas in the former Belgian Congo.
He went on to conduct the earliest research studies of Indian tigers, Serengeti lions, Brazilian jaguars, Chinese pandas and Tibetan brown bears.
It was Schaller who first guided Jane Goodall on her chimpanzee study in Tanzania and Peter Matthiessen into Nepal in search of the snow leopard.
Horn will be in conversation with Sara Dant.

Lauren Camp, the former New Mexico poet laureate, and Justin Hamm, the current Missouri poet laureate, will read from their work at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at Geronimo鈥檚 Books, 3018 Cielo Court, Suite D in Santa Fe.
