Bernalillo County upgrades low income housing units
Bernalillo County celebrated upgrades to the El Centro Familiar housing complex on March 4.

Low-income housing in Albuquerque鈥檚 South Valley has been upgraded with $1 million from New Mexico鈥檚 Community Development Block Grant Program. Bernalillo County unveiled the upgrades recently with a ribbon-cutting.
There were 75 units upgraded at the El Centro Familiar and the Seybold Village housing complexes. Sidewalks were repaired outside of both complexes, while 21 of the units got new sliding glass doors, exhaust fans, gutters and thermostats, and 54 units received thermostats, exhaust fans, new walk-in showers, windows gutters and weatherized roofing.
鈥淚t鈥檚 great to see the work being done here,鈥� District 2 Commissioner Steven Michael Quezada said. 鈥淭he South Valley has often been overlooked by important programs like this, and so I鈥檓 happy to see Bernalillo County and the state come together to give the residents the same amenities that other people might take for granted.鈥�
All 75 units have tenants, according to county spokesman Austin Munn.
The 54-unit complex is for senior housing or for people living with disabilities, while the 21-unit complex serves people who are disabled or mobility impaired. Both complexes have income-based units, so families pay 30% of their adjusted income for rent and utilities.
