A Cibola County man is accused of creating and sending over 60 child sexual abuse videos on a messaging platform. 

Floyd Ethridge, 54, is charged with criminal sexual penetration and criminal sexual contact of a child under the age of 13, possession and distribution of a visual medium of sexual exploitation of children and one count of causing a child under the age of 13 to engage in sexual exploitation. 

He was arrested and booked into the Cibola County Detention Center on April 2. 

Ethridge鈥檚 attorney declined to comment on the case.

鈥淒efendant has a propensity for violence against children, to abusing them himself and encouraging others to do so,鈥� states a pretrial detention motion filed by prosecutors in 13th Judicial District Court. 鈥�(Ethridge鈥檚) predisposition to commit these crimes, his sexual interest in children and toddlers and his admissions and statements to police all underscore a great likelihood that he will continue to offend and endanger the community if released.鈥�

Cibola County Sheriff鈥檚 deputies were dispatched around 4:50 p.m. to a home in Cubero on March 21 in response to a reported sexual offense, according to an arrest warrant affidavit filed in Magistrate Court. 

Deputies spoke with Ethridge, who reportedly told law enforcement he had child sexual abuse material on his phone, the affidavit states. Ethridge told deputies he used apps like Telegram and Zanie to receive and send the videos. 

The Cibola County Sheriff鈥檚 Office said Ethridge was arrested through a joint operation with the FBI.

鈥淭he successful apprehension of this individual reflects the dedication and professionalism of our deputies, detectives, and partnering agencies,鈥� said Sheriff Larry Diaz in a news release. 鈥淐rimes involving children are among the most serious offenses we encounter, and we remain committed to aggressively pursuing those who seek to harm our most vulnerable.鈥�

Law enforcement searched Ethridge鈥檚 house and found two cellphones that had 鈥渘umerous digital files鈥� of children being sexually abused, according to the affidavit.

In all, deputies found more than 60 such videos and photos of child sexual abuse, at least four of which were filmed by Ethridge himself, the affidavit states.

Additionally, deputies found a 16-minute video titled 鈥淏abyrape and Hurtcore鈥� that showed at least 22 unidentified infants and toddlers being raped, sexually assaulted, tortured or defecated on by multiple adults, according to the affidavit. 

The end of the video has a message that states, 鈥淭orture and snuff a defenseless child today鈥� and 鈥淪ick child porn filth and depravity is fun鈥� along with other messages. Videos and images of children being abused, suffocated, stabbed and tortured were shown, according to the affidavit.
