Here's a roundup of what Bernalillo County will lobby for at the Roundhouse
The legislative lobbying priorities for are set after county commissioners voted unanimously on two resolutions Tuesday.
The four legislative priorities, which were decided by the will attempt to secure increased funding for detention officers, firefighters, emergency medical services and courthouses; add an equitable disclosure, which would reform the way commercial properties are appraised; make changes to the state鈥檚 Inspection of Public Records Act; and add resources to 鈥渟upport border-related humanitarian and crime efforts.鈥
The second resolution was the capital outlay requests. The county commissioners will ask the state for funds to build 10 projects, which are: affordable housing for seniors, a Mesa del Sol sports complex, an early learning center, the youth services center, additional space for the animal care center, a fire and rescue aerial tower replacement, El Centro and Seybold Village housing, an annex for the 2nd Judicial District Courthouse, detention center improvements and a shooting range for the sheriff鈥檚 office.
The county will ask for $14.7 million to fund the projects. The resolution was sponsored by Commissioners Eric Olivas and Steven Michael Quezada.
鈥淚 think that we have a really good bill here. ... I also want to say that I think the timing on this is really good, because I believe in the past we鈥檝e been a little bit later,鈥 Olivas said. 鈥淎nd of course, we can always go back and make amendments, make changes, if things change between now and session. But I think it鈥檚 really good to put this out here now, have a list available, as you鈥檙e all meeting with legislators.鈥
The legislative session is set to begin Jan. 21.
