Man arrested after allegedly shooting man by Old Town
APD: Suspect 'confessed to leaving his home with the specific intent to shoot someone, citing a hatred for the unhoused community'

A man is accused of gunning down another man by Old Town then hiding the firearm under the hood of a vehicle.
Police did not release the deceased man鈥檚 identity.
Arturo Nanez, 44, of Albuquerque, is charged with an open count of murder, shooting at or from a vehicle and tampering with evidence. He was being booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center, APD spokesperson Rebecca Atkins said in a news release on Sunday night.
Police identified Nanez through video surveillance and automated license plate readers, she said.
Shortly after 1 a.m., officers responded to multiple ShotSpotter activations in the area of Central Avenue and Rio Grande Boulevard, Atkins said. When officers arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital where he died, she said.
According to police, license plate readers were used to track down an SUV, which was found at a home in Northwest Albuquerque.
鈥淒uring an interview, Nanez admitted to the shooting and directed detectives to a 9mm firearm he had concealed under the hood of his vehicle to avoid detection,鈥� Atkins said. 鈥淣anez also confessed to leaving his home with the specific intent to shoot someone, citing a hatred for the unhoused community.鈥�
