One person dead after flash flood sweeps two away
First responders rescued the other person Monday evening

A person was found dead in an arroyo after two people were swept away in a flash flood Monday night.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue was dispatched Monday around 8:13 p.m. after it learned that at least one person was seen in the arroyo, according to a news release from AFR spokesperson Lt. Jason Fejer.
The flood channel, known as 鈥淭he Box,鈥� flows into the Tijeras Arroyo, he said.
Multiple firefighters responded and found one person in the arroyo below Rachel SE, south of Interstate 40 in the Four Hills area.
鈥淐rews used a ground ladder to access the victim and removed them from the flood channel,鈥� Fejer said.
Firefighters searched in the Tiejras Arroyo for the second person but were unable to locate anyone, he said. First responders returned Tuesday morning to continue the search.
The Albuquerque Police Department deployed a drone and members of AFR searched in the water, Fejer said.
First responders eventually found a person dead in 4 feet of water near the spillway, which controls the release of water.
The person was not identified Tuesday afternoon. The Office of the Medical Investigator took custody of the person, according to Fejer.
