Portales officer shoots dog during 911 call
It is unclear if the dog survived or what injuries it sustained

A Portales police officer shot a dog while responding to a 911 call on Saturday.
Officials with the city of Portales said officers were dispatched to a 鈥�911 hang-up" call in the 600 block of East Canadian, according to a Monday news release from City Manager Scott Mitten.
One officer exited his vehicle and walked toward the house when two unleashed dogs charged the man, according to Mitten.
鈥淎vailable video shows the officer attempting to create distance and giving verbal commands before discharging his firearm when one dog closed aggressively to a short distance,鈥� Mitten said.
It is unclear how many times the officer opened fire, whether the dog survived or what injuries were sustained.
The shooting is under review and city officials are gathering information 鈥渋ncluding animal control records related to the dog involved,鈥� Mitten said.
鈥淭his is an update only and is not a final report,鈥� he said.
