'Snow Way, Jos茅!' Here's what New Mexicans named our snowplows
Snow news is good news, so don鈥檛 be giving this story the cold shoulder.
The New Mexico Department of Transportation is in with the winning names for its Name a Snowplow contest, and they鈥檙e pretty punny.
Down south, residents can expect to see 鈥淪coop Dogg鈥 and 鈥淪now Way, Jos茅!鈥 patrolling the streets. Meanwhile, 鈥淎lice Scooper鈥 and 鈥淭aylor Drift鈥 will rock the roads in Albuquerque, according to a news release.
The announcement came Wednesday just after snowstorms touched down from Las Cruces to Ruidoso, blanketing the area in ice and snow.
鈥淚 know snowstorms hate to see the Blizzard of Oz coming!鈥 said U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fern谩ndez, D-N.M., in a post on social media about District 4鈥檚 newly named snowplow. District 4 covers the northeast part of the state.
The NMDOT received close to 700 entries in its competition, now in its second year, and after careful consideration, judges settled on 12 names. Some hark back to classic New Mexican dishes like 鈥淐hips and Que Snow,鈥 鈥淓n-CHILL-ada鈥 and 鈥淩ed Chilly Brrrr-ito,鈥 while others celebrate historic figures like 鈥淐lear-o-Pathra鈥 鈥 though it rarely snows in Egypt.
Nonetheless, 鈥淶ia Later, Snow鈥 will scrape the streets in Gallup, while 鈥淪now Bueno鈥 keeps the roads clear in Silver City. And people in Taos should look out for the 鈥淏lizzard Wizard.鈥
