Taos firefighters find body in Miranda Canyon house fire

The New Mexico State Fire Marshal鈥檚 Office is looking into a fire that led firefighters to discover a body inside a home southeast of Taos on Sunday.
Firefighters from the Taos Fire Department were dispatched to a report of the structure fire just after 2 p.m. in Miranda Canyon, south of Llano Quemado in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, according to a department social media post Tuesday.
Upon arrival, firefighters say they witnessed smoke pouring from the eaves of a two-story house, with active flames visible on the second floor.
They were able to put the fire out quickly after making entry, noting that the fire鈥檚 damage had been contained to a single room, where it appeared to have originated. Smoke damage was visible throughout the rest of the second floor.
鈥淥ne deceased occupant was located inside the structure,鈥� the post said, noting that no firefighters were injured while responding to the fire.
The exact cause and manner of the person鈥檚 death remain unconfirmed.
Officials have not released the identity of the dead person, pending an autopsy and completion of the Fire Marshal鈥檚 Office investigation.
