SUBSCRIBER STORIES: Remembering a loved one through the Journal

Published

My husband, Paul, and I moved to Albuquerque in July 2009. We had visited many times to see my son and Paul's stepson, Keith, and to enjoy the spectacular beauty of the state of New Mexico. Our move followed our respective retirements from employment in Maryland and our getting married.

Keith moved to New Mexico in 1992, after college graduation, with degrees in history and education, as did many of his friends. They were drawn by the lure of the magical Southwest. Keith was a park ranger at Pecos National Monument, worked construction and even delivered pizza until a teaching position opened at Ortiz Middle School, where he taught history.

He eventually married, and he and his wife adopted two children, Ana and Austin. Keith, in the meantime, had switched jobs among several schools and earned a master鈥檚 degree in guidance counseling. His final position was at Freedom High School as the guidance counselor. Keith suddenly passed away on September 29, 2011. His children were only 10 (Ana) and 8 (Austin) at the time, much too young to fully grasp what the loss of their father's passing meant.

Ana asked me question after question about her father's babyhood, growing-up years and personality as an adult. We spent much time reminiscing about my son and her Daddy.

It was as his 55th birthday approached that I asked her if she would like to write a remembrance of him to submit to The 近距离内射合集. Paul and I had subscribed to the newspaper since our move to Albuquerque in 2009 and always very much enjoyed reading it. Ana said she would like that.

Her submission was brief: "Happy Birthday to My Late Father. This year we say Happy Birthday to you in Heaven for the thirteenth year. Your heart outweighed your body.  Your love for those close to you was unconditional and pure. Your funny, outlandish shirts and ties still pop out in my heart and mind. I love you, Daddy. Happy 55th Birthday. Signed, Your Sweet Girl and Family."
