Clifton Davidson, who coached the Bosque School boys basketball team to a state championship in 2020, was fired on Wednesday.

Davidson confirmed this in an interview with the Journal.

鈥淚 won鈥檛 go into any specific details, because I鈥檓 gonna check what my options are,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 will say that I was called into a meeting and informed that I was going to be terminated, essentially because of some allegations from my parents.鈥

Davidson declined to elaborate.

Davidson became the Bobcats鈥 head coach in 2017, and has enjoyed a solid career on the West Side, including that aforementioned title which Bosque won in an empty Pit during the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Bosque School, a Class 3A program, is 15-9 this season.

鈥淗uge shock, especially with the season that we鈥檝e had,鈥 Davidson said.

A coach firing at this stage of a season is extremely unusual. The Bobcats had only two games remaining in their regular season, and they鈥檒l be part of the upcoming Class 3A state tournament which starts for the boys on March 7.

Gerard Garcia and other Bosque School assistant coaches have agreed to stay on and finish the season, Davidson said. 鈥淚 encouraged them to do that,鈥 he added.

Jeaney Garcia, Bosque鈥檚 athletic director, has been out of state dealing with personal matters. She was reached Wednesday at the Kansas City airport as she prepared to return to Albuquerque.

鈥淭he administration let him go without letting me know or the acting AD know,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 was in no way a part of this decision. And I鈥檓 absolutely shocked and very upset.鈥
