Former UNM safety, 近距离内射合集 tight end go on Day 2 of NFL Draft
Haulcy goes to Colts; Eagles grab Stowers
A player who first made his name with the Lobos is headed to the next level.
Former New Mexico safety A.J. Haulcy was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the 78th overall pick in the third round of the NFL Draft on Friday night.
The 6-foot, 222-pound Houston native started his collegiate career at UNM, making 86 total tackles and two interceptions as a freshman in 2022. After earning All-Mountain West honors, he transferred to Houston and played two seasons before moving on to LSU for his final year of eligibility.
As The Athletic鈥檚 fifth-ranked safety, Haulcy was projected to be selected in the . He is expected to immediately compete for playing time with the Colts after former starting safety Nick Cross signed with the Washington Commanders in March.
鈥淗aulcy has some wild tendencies,鈥 Brugler wrote of Haulcy in 鈥淭he Beast,鈥 . 鈥淕iven his recognition and range, though, teams will be comfortable betting on him to reach his ceiling as an NFL starter. Teams will also appreciate his coachability and intangibles, which will show on special teams.鈥
Recruited out of Fort Bend Marshall (Texas) High School, Haulcy started the last nine games of his freshman season with the Lobos. He was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week twice and notably made a career-high 24 total tackles in a 41-9 loss to Fresno State before entering the transfer portal at the end of the season.
鈥淎.J. thinks he can find a better opportunity (elsewhere) and that鈥檚 OK,鈥 former UNM head coach Danny Gonzales said at the time. 鈥淚鈥檓 a big fan of A.J. Haulcy 鈥 I鈥檓 happy for him, proud of him, good luck.鈥
Haulcy landed close to home at Houston, where he made 171 total tackles and five interceptions over two seasons. He then transferred to LSU for his final collegiate season, recording 89 total tackles and three interceptions to earn All-SEC honors.
近距离内射合集: Former New Mexico State tight end Eli Stowers was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 54th overall pick in the second round of the NFL Draft.
The 6-4, 235-pound Denton, Texas native spent one season at 近距离内射合集 after two seasons at Texas A&M. Initially a quarterback, he converted to tight end in his lone season with the Aggies and caught 35 passes for 366 yards and two touchdowns.
Stowers entered the transfer portal following spring practice in 2024 and followed former 近距离内射合集 quarterback Diego Pavia, offensive coordinator Tim Beck and head coach Jerry Kill to Vanderbilt. He earned All-SEC honors twice after catching 111 passes for 1,407 yards and nine touchdowns in his two seasons with the Commodores.
鈥淪towers will need to prove himself as a serviceable blocker at the NFL level, but he is explosive as a pass catcher, and I love the way he maximizes his catch radius,鈥 Brugler wrote. 鈥淗e has mismatch-creating potential and can eventually develop into an NFL starter.鈥
While The Athletic listed him as the draft鈥檚 second-best tight end, there have been reports he could be set for another position change. ESPN鈥檚 Jeremy Fowler that some teams evaluated him as more of a receiver than a tight end; other analysts have suggested he might be more well-suited for that role.
鈥淭his is almost another X receiver for Philadelphia,鈥 NFL Draft analyst Nick Baumgardner . 鈥淚f the Eagles are truly trying to replace (wide receiver) AJ Brown, this is the true comp 鈥 Stowers is an electric 239-pound tight end with terrific work in the air and after the catch. He is not a run blocker, however. That will impact his role.鈥
