The Lobos will be howling soon.

UNM鈥檚 men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball teams will host a free-to-the-public Lobo Howl event in the Pit on Friday, Oct. 9.

The event has autograph signing opportunities, skills competitions and 3-point contests with both teams and the men鈥檚 team also has a slam dunk contest, won last season by then true freshman and now returning sophomore point guard Uriah Tenette.

The 3-point contest last year was won by Kaia Foster, who is back for the women鈥檚 Lobos roster, but has a broken left foot and will miss the beginning of the coming 2026-27 season. The Lobo men鈥檚 player she beat in last year鈥檚 final is also back: 2026 Mountain West Freshman of the Year Jake Hall.

More information on the Howl will be released by UNM in the coming weeks.

Local prep star visiting

Former 近距离内射合集 Vista star David Lunn, a 6-foot-4 guard who is playing this senior season at a prep school called CATS Academy in Boston, and Wes Hilldale, a 6-6 guard at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia, will both be in Albuquerque this weekend on official recruiting visits with Eric Olen and the UNM Lobo men鈥檚 basketball team.

Two weeks ago, a pair of forwards 鈥� 6-10 Nick Welch Jr. from California and 6-7 Landon Veal of Texas 鈥� were in town on official recruiting visits.

Real hoops ones

UNM on Thursday posted on its social media channels a video showing men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball coaches and players all finding large envelopes with 鈥淟obos鈥� written on them, opening them and giving a wide-eyed reaction.

The posts also had the text: 鈥淪pecial surprise coming soon.鈥�

While UNM isn鈥檛 yet unveiling the promotion, it will be akin to the 鈥淩eal Ones鈥� promotion UNM had in the off season trying to up season ticket sales for Lobo football.

UNM is celebrating this season the 60th anniversary of the opening of the Pit, and will have promotions related to that, as well.

Sam鈥檚 seminal moment

Former UNM Lobo wing Sam Logwood on Thursday was announced as the new Director of Video and Scouting for the Florida State Seminoles.

Logwood was hired by second-year FSU coach Luke Loucks, who was an assistant with the NBA鈥檚 Sacramento Kings when Logwood was a video assistant there, both working under Albuquerque resident and former Kings head coach Mike Brown, now the head coach of the NBA Champion New York Knicks.

鈥淪am is a tremendous addition to our staff, and we鈥檙e really excited to have him in Tallahassee,鈥� Loucks in a release from the team. 鈥淪am is someone I had the opportunity to work with in Sacramento, and I know firsthand the impact he can have on a program. He has high level experience as a graduate assistant in college, a coach in college, and valuable video, scouting, and player development experience at the NBA level.鈥�

Logwood, who started 80 games over four seasons (2014-15 through 2017-18) at UNM, was an assistant coach for Big West鈥檚 Cal State Bakersfield last season.

Douma-Sanchez back in New Mexico

Former Lobo walk-on and Del Norte High standout Shane Douma-Sanchez, who played this past season at Lower Columbia (Junior) College in Longview, Washington, is on this season鈥檚 Northern New Mexico College roster.

The Eagles and Douma-Sanchez are scheduled to play in the Pit on Dec. 29, which could be a rather interesting matchup.

Douma-Sanchez sued UNM and the Lobo basketball team in December 2024, accusing the program of essentially fostering a culture that allowed him to be bullied, culminating he said in his being punched in the face on a team charter flight to California that season by a teammate. A state district judge has since granted former Lobos coach Richard Pitino being dropped from the suit, but the case remains pending against UNM and former attorney Rudy Chavez, who Douma-Sanchez鈥檚 attorneys claim: 鈥渕ade or amplified within the UNM community false, deceptive, and defamatory statements about Shane鈥� during the weeks after the allegations first came to light.

There is a procedural motions hearing in the case scheduled in state district court for next week.
