Hope Christian blanks Atrisco Heritage, AHS wins slugfest against Cibola

Centennial wins its first game, defeating 0-3 Artesia

Albuquerque High and Hope Christian were football winners in the metro area on Thursday night.

At Milne Stadium, the Bulldogs (1-1-1) held off Cibola (0-3) 12-7 in a tight defensive matchup.

Adam Aguirre threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Giovanni Rivera, and Deven Poole scored on a 3-yard run for the Bulldogs. The Poole TD was set up by Julian Madera鈥檚 long run that got the Bulldogs into the red zone.

At Nusenda Community Stadium, Hope Christian (3-0) got another big night from senior receiver Darrien Williams, who scored three touchdowns 鈥 for the second straight week 鈥 in a 50-0 win over Atrisco Heritage (1-2).

Kane Otero added a pair of rushing scores for the Huskies.

At the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces, Centennial (1-2) won its home opener, 37-14 over visiting Artesia, as the defending Class 5A state champions fell to 0-3.

Dailen Ramirez and quarterback Ruiz Laborin both scored on short runs in the first half, and the Hawks led 17-0 at intermission.

Ramirez returned the opening kickoff of the second half 88 yards for a score and a 24-0 bulge.

Artesia scored both its touchdowns in the final 100 seconds of the game.
