The girls from Hope Christian and La Cueva, and the boys from Rio Grande and Albuquerque High all reached the championship game of the Albuquerque Metro Soccer Championships on Tuesday night.

At the APS Complex, La Cueva edged St. Pius and the Huskies defeated 近距离内射合集 Vista, setting up their final.

Rio Grande blanked Atrisco Heritage, while AHS had the most impressive win Tuesday, routing Rio Rancho.

Both finals are 7 p.m. Thursday.

Girls

LA CUEVA 1, ST. PIUS 0: It was a former Hope Husky, Violet Koil, who had the game鈥檚 lone tally, a first-half rebound goal as the Bears (4-0) held off the Sartans (3-1-1).

Avery Naik鈥檚 free kick from just outside the box was not handled cleanly in net by the Hawks, and Koil, a junior outside back, was there to pounce and put it away.

鈥淚t鈥檚 all about crashing the goal,鈥� she said.

And now, she will be facing her former Hope teammates on Thursday.

鈥淚 am looking forward to it,鈥� she said. Asked why she transferred, Koil said, 鈥淛ust a bunch of different reasons. But I love it over here way better than at Hope.鈥�

For new coach Aaron Forrester, La Cueva鈥檚 style was just what he wanted.

鈥淧robably our physical play,鈥� he said. 鈥淲e were a little more physical than they were. It was hard fought, it could have gone either way.鈥�

Ciena Carabajal made 10 saves in net for La Cueva.

HOPE CHRISTIAN 3, VOLCANO VISTA 0: Consider that the five-time defending 4A state champion Huskies (5-0) already own wins over 5A鈥檚 Eldorado, Rio Rancho and now 近距离内射合集 Vista (4-1).

It鈥檚 yet another impressive start for Hope Christian, the defending metro champ, which got goals in the first half from Islah Stansfield (12th minute) and Brooklyn Fankam (18th), and an insurance tally in the 54th from Genesis Guajardo.

鈥淚t was a team effort,鈥� coach Amy Fankam said. 鈥淵ou saw that with our balanced scoring, and we have different people saving us in the back.鈥�

In a contrast of styles, she said, Hope鈥檚 prevailed.

鈥淭hey play very, very direct. They want to go forward and go forward quickly, we spend a little more time moving the ball around, possessing the ball a bit. Both are effective on any given day, ours was more effective today.鈥�

Sophomore goalkeeper Maddy James recorded 14 saves for a clean sheet for Hope.

Boys

RIO GRANDE 2, ATRISCO HERITAGE 0: The Ravens (5-0) got a taste of the metro finals last year, losing to La Cueva, and now they鈥檝e booked a return engagement after an impressive win over the rival Jaguars (3-1-1).

鈥淚 wanted them to be mentally stronger, and they have been, and it showed tonight,鈥� Rio Grande coach Brian Weems said. 鈥淭hat, along with their skill, has propelled them to a high level of soccer.鈥�

Senior forward Yahir Mendoza鈥檚 tally in the fifth minute was all the Ravens would need.

鈥淚t was hard getting to the final last year and losing,鈥� Mendoza said. 鈥淭his year, we鈥檙e coming in strong and we鈥檙e ready.鈥�

Alex Trujillo, a transfer from Atrisco Heritage, had the shutout in net.

鈥淲e鈥檙e happy with Alex,鈥� Weems said, 鈥渁nd our back line has been very good.鈥�

Alexander Ceniceros added the second goal for the Ravens, in the 30th minute.

ALBUQUERQUE HIGH 6, RIO RANCHO 1: The Bulldogs (5-0) enjoyed a big night against the Rams (3-1-1), with six players hitting the back of the net.

Eden 鈥淐hicha鈥� Garcia Flores led the way with a goal and three assists for AHS.
