Roadrunner Little League鈥檚 evening started a little later than expected, but it also ended a little earlier than it would have liked. 

Host team Taylor North Little League used a six-run fifth inning to roll to a mercy-rule shortened 10-0 victory over Roadrunner at the Junior Baseball Little League World Series at Heritage Park in Taylor, Michigan, on Monday night. The game started approximately an hour-and-a-half late due to a rain delay that pushed back the start of all the day鈥檚 games. 

鈥淣ot playing until (8:30 EDT) is a tough deal,鈥� said Roadrunner manager Joe Rogillio in a phone interview. 鈥淚t makes it a little bit tough as you start to prepare. I don't think it affected us as much because once the game started they were ready to go and everything was good.鈥� 

Roadrunner will face an opponent from Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, in an elimination game scheduled for 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The Albuquerque team is just one of three outfits from New Mexico at any level to win a Southwest regional and make a Little League World Series in the past 70 years. 

鈥淭he experience has been top notch. These boys play a lot of baseball and this is something they'll always remember,鈥� Rogillio said. 鈥淩ight now it's just trying to keep the pressure off of them and have them focus on just the game itself rather than everything else around it.

鈥溾�� I just gave them one simple (message): Tomorrow鈥檚 a new day, and we start sending teams home.鈥� 

While Roadrunner had an opening-round bye, Taylor North built some momentum with a 6-1 triumph over Freehold Township Little League from New Jersey on Sunday. That seemed to carry over, as the host team used a bases-loaded double from Cortez Loving Jr. and a sacrifice fly by Brock Francis to take a 3-0 lead after three innings. 

Things snowballed from there, as the Michigan squad tacked on a run in the fourth due to an errant pickoff attempt to go up 4-0. Roadrunner aided its opponent鈥檚 cause with a variety of miscues in the decisive fifth frame, including an error, a couple of wild pitches and a balk. 

Michigan finished with 10 hits 鈥� including a trio of doubles 鈥� and didn鈥檛 make a single error. Brycen Rogillio and Harry Brunton had the evening鈥檚 lone hits for Roadrunner. The team had at least one baserunner in each of the five innings but was unable to capitalize. 

Rogillio used four pitchers, making quick changes with an eye toward preserving arms and pitch counts for Wednesday鈥檚 elimination game. 

鈥淚 just had to go too deep into the bullpen, giving kids chances to kind of save others as the road moves on,鈥� he said. 鈥淲e didn't hit the ball today. We didn't drive baseballs and so deciding on whether to pull kids to save them down the stretch was the big decision at that point.鈥�
