The NB3 Matchplay golf tournament is back 鈥� and with a few new faces, too.

The third annual collegiate match play event is returning this fall with previous event mainstays like the University of New Mexico and New Mexico State in the mix, and three new schools added to the field, the Notah Begay III (NB3) Foundation announced Tuesday.

UNM and 近距离内射合集 men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 teams will be joined by North Carolina State in both fields, while Houston and Oklahoma will compete as the fourth men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 teams, respectively. The round-robin match play event will be contested Sept. 29-30 at Twin Warriors Golf Club in Santa Ana Pueblo, the host of the tournament鈥檚 last two editions.

The tournament will also receive a national broadcast via Golf Channel on both days of competition. The event will not coincide with the International Balloon Fiesta like it has in the past.

Albuquerque native Notah Begay III 鈥� the namesake of the tournament and a former PGA Tour professional 鈥� said schools showed a high level of interest in playing in this year鈥檚 tournament. He noted that his connection with former UNM and current Houston athletic director Eddie Nu帽ez helped the Cougars in particular land in the men鈥檚 field.

鈥淗e spoke very highly of our relationship and spoke very highly of the event, having been part of (organizing) our very first one,鈥� he said. 鈥淎nd then North Carolina State just sees the value of playing on national television in a different part of the country that they typically don鈥檛 visit.鈥�

Begay added he had to turn down multiple teams due to a combination of interest and the event鈥檚 smaller field size. 

鈥淚t has gotten a lot of notice within the college golf space, which is exactly what it was intended to do,鈥� he said. 鈥淎nd so through that success, we鈥檙e hoping to leverage more opportunity for our partners and for the state.鈥�

Presented by the Pueblo of Santa Ana and Nusenda Community Credit Union, each team in its respective fields will play three matches over two days for five points each. The team with the most points at the end of competition will receive the title; UNLV and Arizona won the event鈥檚 men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 team titles, respectively, in last year鈥檚 event.
