NM-connected veterans, rookies make rosters 

For others, the news was not so good

As of Monday, the names of nine New Mexico-connected players appeared on NFL rosters the day after cuts to the maximum of 53. 

Two former New Mexico Lobo were signed to NFL practice squads. At least five players 鈥 three former Lobos, a former Aggie, a former Rio Rancho Ram 鈥 were released outright.

The nine survivors (or so it appears; this list is unofficial, culled from listings from the Associated Press and the NFL):

  • Corey Bojorquez, punter, UNM (2016-17), Cleveland Browns. Bojorquez is beginning his ninth season in the NFL

  • Bryce Cabeldue, offensive lineman, Clovis High School/Kansas, Seattle Seahawks. His second year.

  • Jacory (Bill) Croskey-Merritt, running back, UNM (2023), Washington Commanders. His second year.

  • A.J. Haulcy, cornerback, UNM (2022), Indianapolis Colts. A rookie, Haulcy has made the Colts roster as a third-round draft pick.

  • Seth McGowan, running back, New Mexico State (2024), Indianapolis Colts. A rookie, McGowan has made the Colts roster as a seventh-round draft pick.

  • Connor O鈥橳oole, linebacker, La Cueva/Utah, Seattle Seahawks. His second year.

  • Jason Sanders, kicker, UNM (2014-17), New York Jets. Sanders is beginning his ninth season. (Later Monday, the Jets signed a kicker off waivers from Indianapolis and assigned Sanders to the practice squad).

  • Eli Stowers, tight end, 近距离内射合集 (2023), Philadelphia Eagles. A rookie, Stowers has made the Eagles roster as a second-round draft pick.

  • Mike Washington Jr., running back, 近距离内射合集 (2024), Las Vegas Raiders. A rookie, Washington has made the Raiders roster as a fourth-round pick.

ELSEWHERE: Former UNM cornerback D鈥橝ngelo Ross (2017-18) was released by the Browns on Sunday but was signed to the team鈥檚 practice squad on Monday. He鈥檚 an eight-year NFL veteran.

Former UNM edge rusher Keyshawn James-Newby (2025) was signed to Philadelphia鈥檚 practice squad. James-Newby was a seventh-round pick by the Eagles in the 2026 Draft.

Among those released: 

Safety Noah Avinger (UNM, 2024) by the Los Angeles Chargers; defensive end Keshawn Banks (Rio Rancho, San Diego State) by Atlanta; offensive tackle Shiyazh Pete (Shiprock High School, 近距离内射合集, 2021-24), by Dallas; safety Jerrick Reed II (UNM, 2019-22), by Tennessee;  offensive lineman DJ Wingfield (UNM, 2022-23), by Dallas.
