IN SANTA FE

Collected Works hosts three literary events this week.

At 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, D茅sir茅e Zamorano (鈥淎marisa鈥檚 Cooking Pot: Tales of Life in All Its Wonders鈥�) and Michelle Otero (鈥淰essels: A Memoir of Borders鈥�) will discuss their books. Otero is a 2026 Aldo and Estella Leopold Residency Fellow.

The authors will also be in conversation with Margo Ch谩vez-Charles on the subjects of the magic of words, the power of writing communities and the importance of Latin representation in literature.

At 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, Barbara Rockman of Santa Fe will read from her new poetry collection 鈥淣ight said.鈥� It is described as part elegy and part celebration.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, prize-winning author Laila Lalami will chat about 鈥淭he Dream Hotel,鈥� her recent novel about one woman鈥檚 fight for freedom. It is set in a near future where even dreams are under surveillance. The book was a finalist for the 2026 Edgar Award for Best Novel.

Collected Works is located at 202 Galisteo St. in Santa Fe.

BOOKS ON THE BOSQUE

The Albuquerque bookstore hosts these two literary events this week.

Casey Moores, co-editor of 鈥淏uff Orpington Versus the League of Conspicuous Evil,鈥� will discuss the book at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13. The book, the first of a planned trilogy, probes a futuristic world of supervillains.

Robert Jensen will discuss his book 鈥淭his I Don鈥檛 Believe: A Fulfilling Life Without Meaning鈥� at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18. The author argues that thinking and work are enough to create a rich life. He encourages readers to reflect on their own choices and commitments.

AT PAGE 1 BOOKS

Author Elizabeth Gabel will talk about and sign copies of her new young adult fantasy novel 鈥淕ates of Erin鈥� 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.

鈥淕ates of Erin鈥� is about two Irish teens who become heirs to an ancient prophesy and must fight for their lives in a battle between realms. 

Fifteen-year-old Virginia is dragged from Dublin to live with members of her family in the distant countryside. When a beast chases her into a strange underground world, she鈥檒l need to forge new allies and schemes to survive in a kingdom of rule fairies, warrior leprechauns and mercurial gods. Seventeen-year-old Connell is the only one who knows where Virginia has fled to.

The story weaves in Irish mythology.

AT TAOS GALLERY

Nancy J. Allen (鈥淎 Method of Reaching Extreme Altitudes and Other Stories鈥�) and Lynn C. Miller (鈥淭he Surrogate, A Novel鈥�) will read from and discuss their work from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Stables Art Gallery, 133 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, Taos.

They will be in conversation with Katherine DiBella Seluja.

AT SOMOS SALON

Somos presents writer-publisher Gail Spilsbury and a group of northern New Mexico poets reading from their work at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Somos Salon, 108 Civic Plaza Drive in Taos.

The poets are Kate O鈥橬eill, Carrie Nassif, Alan Macrae, Anne MacNaughton, John Biscello and Kathleen Knoth.
