Charlie Condon was on fire in spring, leading many to think he was going to be an opening-day Big Leaguer.

His start to his first Triple-A season was hardly a slump, but wasn鈥檛 the power-hitting masterpiece some had envisioned. That was followed by a few months of elite hitting,  prompting many to wonder why he wasn鈥檛 being called up, followed by a pedestrian August.

And now, especially after Sunday鈥檚 rare two-grand slam game, the best player on the Albuquerque Isotopes roster appears to be on fire again.

All in all, pretty much a typical, long baseball season with some ups and downs for the former first-round pick whom MLB Pipeline鈥檚 latest organizational rankings list as the Colorado Rockies鈥� No. 3 prospect 鈥� and one who will likely be donning that big-league purple any day now as the final 12 games of the Triple A season are upon us.

But for now, let鈥檚 take one more opportunity to appreciate the greatness that was Condon鈥檚 Sunday masterpiece at Rio Grande Credit Union Field 鈥� a game the team鈥檚 top-notch media crew described as 鈥渙ne of the greatest single-game performances in Isotopes history.鈥�

Sunday, the 23-year-old former Georgia Bulldog did the following:

• 4 hits (in 5 at bats)

• 2 grand slams (fourth time in Isotopes history)

• 9 RBI (franchise record, breaking his own previous personal record of five)

• 11 total bases

On the season, here鈥檚 where Condon checks in on some major hitting numbers:

• 25 home runs (Most for an Isotopes player since Carlos Perez hit 31 in 2022)

• 90 RBIs (most since Wynton Bernard鈥檚 92 in 2022)

• 5 multi-homer games, tied with Pat Valaika (2019) for most in a season.

Know the foe

The Isotopes hit the road for their final road trip of the season and a six-game Pacific Coast League series in Reno, Tuesday through Sunday, at Greater Nevada Field.

• Isotopes, Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, 67-71 overall (5th), 28-35 2nd half (8th)

• Reno Aces, Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, 61-76 overall (9th), 29-33 2nd half (7th)

The countdown is on

The Isotopes have 12 games remaining in the 2026 season 鈥� six at home at Rio Grande Credit Union Field and six on the road.

The team must go 8-4 over those 12 games to avoid a losing record and finish .500 or better for the first time since 2013.

Three up, three down

Some things that have been looking good lately for the 'Topes, some not so good.

Looking good:

1. OF Sterlin Thompson has reached base in 50 of his past 85 plate appearances.

2. With Condon鈥檚 two-grand slam game on Sunday, the Isotopes now have four games in which there were two grand slams hit (in two games it was done by one player; in the other games it was two players with a grand slam apiece). The first came on April 13, 2003, in the team鈥檚 first home win in franchise history, when Derek Wathan and Robert Stratton each had one.

3. The Isotopes have had 450,881 fans walk through the gates this season, the fifth- highest attendance in Minor League Baseball and the most in the Pacific Coast League.

Look away:

1. The Isotopes have lost three of their last four series and 14 of their last 20 games.

2. Albuquerque pitchers allowed four home runs in Saturday鈥檚 loss to Tacoma, tied for the third most they鈥檝e allowed in a game all season. They had allowed five home runs in the previous nine games.

3. Wednesday through Saturday last week, Isotopes hitters had double digit strikeouts in four consecutive games.

Fast food

There are two heated races heading into the final two weeks of the season 鈥� the race for the top of the standings, and the race to stay out of the basement.
