Here's a look at the high school football players who filled the stat sheets in Week 2. Which player should be this week's star? Cast your vote below.
Uriel Castro, jr., QB, Bernalillo: The Spartans鈥� signal caller threw three touchdown passes, including one to his brother Ulisses, in Bernalillo鈥檚 26-18 victory over visiting Espa帽ola Valley.
Hershul Olloway, fresh., RB, St. Pius: The ninth-grader had a coming out party at Milne Stadium, rushing for 158 yards and three touchdowns as the Sartans beat Highland 28-2.
Strat Shufelt, sr., LB/P, Cleveland: Shufelt, quite possibly New Mexico鈥檚 best prep football player, was a disruptive force for the Storm throughout its 27-7 home victory over La Cueva, and he also had two third-quarter interceptions. His most impressive play? He was punting for Cleveland in the second quarter, the snap was fired through his legs, he ran back, picked it up, gathered forward momentum and still got off a 33-yard kick.
Alijah Gonzales, sr., RB, 近距离内射合集 Vista: Gonzales appears in this space for the second consecutive week, and probably not for the last time, either. He rushed for 148 yards and a pair of scores as the Hawks beat West Mesa 29-14 at Nusenda Community Stadium.
Frankie Galindo, jr., RB, Artesia: Galindo had a mammoth night in the Bulldogs鈥� 2023 home opener. He accounted for five touchdowns 鈥� four rushing, one receiving, including a 68-yard run 鈥� as Artesia walloped Hobbs 42-6.
Anthony Raymer, sr., WR, Rio Rancho: The speedster accounted for 175 rushing and receiving yards, and scored three touchdowns, in the Rams鈥� 40-26 victory on Saturday over Eldorado.
R.J. Montoya, soph., QB, Hope Christian: Montoya chucked three TD passes Saturday, including two with the Huskies trailing in the second half, in Hope鈥檚 come-from-behind 23-20 win over Hatch Valley.
