What steps do you believe should be taken to improve New Mexico's economic competitiveness?

Lower taxes, especially by reforming or repealing the gross receipts tax, and reduce burdensome regulations. Streamline permitting, invest in infrastructure, and create a predictable business climate. Empower local industries like energy and agriculture while removing barriers that drive employers and jobs out of New Mexico.

New Mexico is the only state that does not pay its legislators a salary, though lawmakers do receive per diem payments and can qualify for a legislative pension. Do you support or oppose the proposed constitutional amendment calling for a new legislative salary tied to the median family income level?

I oppose it. New Mexico benefits from citizen lawmakers who stay connected to their communities. Creating a full-time, salaried legislature risks building a permanent political class and distancing elected officials from the people they serve.

With New Mexico now the nation鈥檚 second-highest oil producing state, would you support or oppose changes to the state鈥檚 gross receipts tax and personal income tax structures? Please explain.

I strongly support reforming or repealing the gross receipts tax鈥攊t makes New Mexico uncompetitive and discourages investment. I also support lowering personal income tax rates to help families keep more of what they earn and to attract and retain a skilled workforce.

Would you support or oppose imposing water use limits on data centers? In addition, would you generally support or oppose banning data centers in New Mexico?

I鈥檓 skeptical of large-scale data center expansion given our limited water resources. If allowed, they must meet strict water-use limits, secure their own power, and earn local community consent. We should not pursue growth that strains our environment or overrides local control.

Amid a recent string of high-profile criminal cases involving juvenile defendants, do you support or oppose imposing stricter sentences for adolescents convicted of certain violent crimes?

I support it. Violent crime has serious consequences, regardless of age. We must protect communities and ensure accountability, while still allowing for rehabilitation where appropriate. Public safety must come first.

Would you support or oppose a ban on selling certain types of firearms, including semiautomatic firearms and machine guns?

I oppose it. Law-abiding citizens have a constitutional right to own firearms. Instead of restricting those rights, we should focus on enforcing existing laws and imposing tougher penalties on criminals who misuse firearms.

Do you support or oppose using New Mexico鈥檚 National Guard to assist local law enforcement with issues related to public safety?

I have concerns about using military forces domestically, but I support their use where lawful and appropriate鈥攕uch as securing the border or responding to mass armed rebellion. Any use must be limited, constitutional, and clearly defined.

What changes would you propose to improve New Mexico鈥檚 Children, Youth and Families Department?

CYFD needs structural reform, stronger accountability, and better caseworker support. We must prioritize child safety, reduce caseload burdens, improve oversight, and ensure resources are reaching frontline workers who protect vulnerable children.

What steps should be taken to bring New Mexico into compliance with the 2018 court ruling that found New Mexico is failing to provide a sufficient education to all students?

Expand school choice and empower parents with more options, including charter schools. Restore local control and stop top-down micromanagement. Enforce clear standards and accountability. I鈥檝e served 26 years on my local school board, and I know that local communities, not Santa Fe bureaucrats, know what works best.

New Mexico has seen a string of devastating wildfires and floods in recent years. What policy steps, if any, should the state take to address these natural disasters?

Invest in forest management, including thinning and controlled burns, to reduce wildfire risk. Improve watershed infrastructure and flood mitigation. Strengthen emergency response coordination and support local communities in prevention and recovery efforts. Proactive management is far more effective than reactive spending.

Would you support or oppose a paid family and medical leave program that would require most employees and employers to pay into a state-run fund?

I oppose it. A state-run mandate would raise costs on small businesses and workers. We should support flexible, employer-driven solutions rather than imposing new payroll taxes that make it harder to hire and grow jobs.

Have you or your business, if you are a business owner, ever been the subject of any state or federal tax liens?

No

Have you ever been arrested for, charged with, or convicted of drunken driving, any misdemeanor or any felony in New Mexico or any other state? If so, explain.

No

Have you ever been involved in a personal or business bankruptcy proceeding?

No
