'Better Call Saul' picks up eight Emmy nominations for final season
鈥淏etter Call Saul鈥� may have ended its run on TV in 2022.
But the critically acclaimed show picked up eight Emmy nominations on Wednesday.
It was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series alongside 鈥淎ndor,鈥� 鈥淭he Crown,鈥� 鈥淗ouse of the Dragon,鈥�
鈥淭he Last of Us,鈥� 鈥淪uccession,鈥� 鈥淭he White Lotus鈥� and 鈥淵ellowjackets.鈥�
Bob Odenkirk earned a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series 鈥� making it No. 6 for his role as Saul Goodman.
Odenkirk has been nominated every season for 鈥淏etter Call Saul鈥� with not one win.
Joining Odenkirk with an acting nomination is Rhea Seehorn, who plays Kim Wexler. She鈥檚 nominated again for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series.
The series was filmed and set in Albuquerque, as it followed the complicated journey and transformation of its compromised hero, Jimmy McGill, played by Bob Odenkirk, into criminal lawyer Saul Goodman.
The series also served as a prequel to cultural juggernaut 鈥淏reaking Bad.鈥�
鈥淏etter Call Saul鈥� also picked up nominations for Outstanding Picture Editing For A Drama Series, Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series for 鈥淏etter Call Saul Filmmaker Training,鈥� Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (One Hour),
And two nominations for Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series. For those episodes, Gordon Smith got the nomination for the episode, 鈥淧oint and Shoot.鈥� Series co-creator Peter Gould was nominated for 鈥淪aul Gone.鈥�
Other New Mexico-filmed productions were honored with Emmy nominations.
The Peacock series, 鈥淧oker Face,鈥� grabbed four noms with Natasha Lyonne getting one for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series.
Netflix鈥檚 鈥淪tanger Things,鈥� picked up six nominations in the makeup, music supervision, sound editing, sound mixing and two noms for stunt performance.
The fourth season of the show was based in New Mexico.
鈥淧rey鈥� and 鈥淗ouse of the Dragon鈥� also picked up six and nine nominations, respectively.
While 鈥淧rey鈥� wasn鈥檛 filmed in New Mexico, it stars New Mexico native Amber Midthunder in the lead role. The feature film picked up nominations for writing, directing, sound editing, music composition, picture editing and Outstanding TV Movie.
鈥淗ouse of the Dragon鈥� is a prequel to Santa Fe resident George R.R. Martin鈥檚 鈥淕ame of Thrones.鈥�
The Emmys will be handed out on Sept. 18.
