Part of the family: Actress Kadianne Whyte excited for third season of Starz's 'BMF'
It鈥檚 been close to a year since Kadianne Whyte wrapped the third season of 鈥淏MF.鈥�
She鈥檚 been waiting to talk about her turn as Angel on the Starz series.
The third season premieres at 6 p.m. Friday, March 1, on Starz and streaming on the Starz app.
鈥淚鈥檓 very excited,鈥� she says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been awhile since we wrapped. We finished the season right before the actor鈥檚 strike began.鈥�

鈥淏MF,鈥� which stands for 鈥淏lack Mafia Family,鈥� is inspired by the true story of two brothers who rose from the decaying streets of southwest Detroit in the late 1980s and gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in the history of America.
Demetrius 鈥淏ig Meech鈥� Flenory, is played by real-life son Demetrius Flenory Jr. and Terry 鈥淪outhwest T鈥� Flenory is played by Da鈥橵inchi.
The series follows the business acumen and the fraternal partnership鈥檚 vision beyond the drug trade and into the world of hip-hop would render the brothers iconic on a global level.
Their unwavering belief in family loyalty would be the cornerstone of their partnership and the crux of their eventual estrangement.
The series kicks off in the early 1990s with Meech moving to Atlanta where he hopes to build upon the BMF empire in the south .
Whyte says the new season tells the story about love, betrayal and thug-capitalism in the pursuit of 鈥淭he American Dream.鈥�
Angel, played by Whyte, first meets Meech as a dancer performing at the club.
He is instantly drawn to her for her amazing looks and the struggles that she has endured, growing up in foster care after her entire family was killed in a car crash.
He gives her confidence and together they form a strong relationship as a couple which blossoms throughout the entire season.
The series also stars Russell Hornsby, La La Anthony, Snoop Dogg, Mo鈥橬ique and Leslie Jones, with new cast members 2 Chainz, Ne-Yo, Dominique 鈥淟il Baby鈥� Jones, Saweetie and Cynthia Bailey joining this season.
鈥淲hat makes it amazing for me is that I grew up knowing the story,鈥� she says. 鈥淚 love projects that are documentary type of series. Knowing the story initially drew me to the project.鈥�
Whyte says Angel is a complicated character.
鈥淪he has an air of mystery about her,鈥� she explains. 鈥淚t鈥檚 difficult for her to trust. Her upbringing was difficult and during her first meeting with Meech, he earned her trust. Angel is the type of person that makes an impact on people. She鈥檚 very talented and there鈥檚 more that goes on behind the scenes.鈥�
Whyte says the two of them are strong-minded women.
鈥淪he鈥檚 talented and doesn鈥檛 realize it,鈥� she says. 鈥淚 also had to come from a place of figuring out what my true identity is. It鈥檚 also a lesson in not letting others or situations dim my light.鈥�
Production took place from March through July.
Whyte says she made sure to return to herself when leaving the set.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a very heavy show and the characters have plenty of flaws,鈥� she says. 鈥淣obody is perfect in this series. When I would leave the set, it was important for me to get back to myself.鈥�
Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Jamaican Chinese parents, Whyte first fell in love with dance at a young age.
After going to college for a few years to pursue a nursing degree, she decided to drop everything and move to Atlanta and take a stab at acting.
Without knowing a soul, she began taking acting lessons and soon was signed by an agent and began booking acting jobs and got her break on the series, 鈥淕reenleaf.鈥�
She has continued working and booking roles nonstop, and has the goal of one day starring in a Marvel or epic spy film where she can showcase her martial arts skills.
In addition to acting, she is also a talented singer and is working on her first album, bringing in her Jamaican roots through an Afrobeats style of R&B.
鈥淪ince childhood, my family always told me that I was a performer,鈥� she says. 鈥淚鈥檝e always been creative in everything I do. As the series gets to premiere, another facet of what I do will be seen. The season is action-packed and I hope people pay attention to the turn of events that happen. It鈥檚 a pivotal season.鈥�
