Elemental power
鈥淓lements,鈥 an art show exploring the beauty and power of earth, wind, fire and water, is open now at the Placitas Public Library. There will be a public reception at 5 p.m. Friday, July 24. The show runs through Aug. 13. The library is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. An 鈥楢ll-Night Vigil鈥
The Santa Fe Desert Chorale will be performing Sergei Rachmaninoff鈥檚 鈥淎ll-Night Vigil鈥 at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 4 p.m. Sunday, July 26, and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30. The Desert Chorale will expand to 32 voices in order to capture the full range of the work. The Saturday performance will be held in Albuquerque at the Cathedral of St. John, 318 Silver Ave. SW. Performances on Sunday and Thursday will be held at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, 131 Cathedral Place in Santa Fe. Tickets for the Albuquerque performance are $80, and $12-$124 for the Santa Fe performances at desertchorale.org.
Let鈥檚 jam
Albuquerque Roller Derby will match up against High Altitude Roller Derby from Flagstaff, Arizona, at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 25. Tickets are $14.25 in advance at holdmyticket.com, or $15 at the door. Kids 12 and under are free. The Manuel Lujan Jr. building at Expo New Mexico is located at 300 San Pedro Drive NE.
Latin flair
Latin Grammy winners Grupo Frontera are bringing their 鈥淭riste Pero Bien C*br贸n Tour鈥 to the Rio Rancho Events Center at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30. Tickets start at $88.40 at rioranchoeventscenter.com. The Rio Rancho Events Center is located at 3001 Civic Center Circle in Rio Rancho.
Historic remembrance
The Historic Fairview Cemetery is hosting a Buffalo Soldier Salute at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25. Learn about the Buffalo Soldiers鈥 role in frontier America after the Civil War or take a cemetery tour with the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club of Albuquerque. Do-si-do
The Wheels Museum is hosting a free square dancing event from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 25. Local square dancers will perform before eventgoers can jump in and join the fun. You鈥檒l be able to learn the basics as a caller guides you through easy-to-follow steps. All are welcome. The Wheels Museum is located at 1100 Second St. SW.
Strum fun
S膩moan ukulele artist Taimane will take the Zoo Music stage at 7 p.m. Friday, July 24. Taimane鈥檚 repertoire spans from Johann Sebastian Bach to Led Zeppelin and beyond. Tickets are $4.50-$18 at artsandculture.cabq.gov, and free for children 2 and under. The ABQ BioPark Zoo is located at 903 Tenth St. SW.
