One person was seriously injured and at least 13 people lost their homes after an apartment fire in Southeast Albuquerque on Saturday.

At about 7:27 p.m., Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a call of a fire at the La Vida Nueva Apartments in the 1200 block of Dickerson Drive, near Santa Clara and Yale. While en route, firefighters learned there were trapped residents, according to an AFR social media post.

After firefighters arrived, they rescued two people, including one who was later taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, AFR spokesperson Jason Fejer said.

No firefighters were injured, the post states.

The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, but 16 units (13 occupied) were reported uninhabitable. Apartment management is working with the American Red Cross and other resources to assist the displaced residents, according to AFR.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, the post states.
