SFPD: Santa Fe woman killed by brother in 'accidental' shooting
A Santa Fe woman was killed Saturday afternoon in what was reported to be an 鈥渁ccidental鈥� shooting by her adult brother, the Santa Fe Police Department said in a social media post.
Alexia Verdugo Sigala, 24, was shot at around 1:45 p.m. near Rufina Street and Atocha Road.
Verdugo Sigala was transported to a local hospital and then airlifted to University of New Mexico Hospital, where she died from her injuries, according to police.
Police said that her brother had allegedly unintentionally discharged a rifle and Verdugo Sigala was struck in the torso.
Detectives interviewed the brother and took the firearm in custody as evidence. Investigators are working with the 1st Judicial District Attorney鈥檚 Office to determine the appropriate charges, according to the post.
