Two separate homicides reported in ABQ in 12 hours
No arrests were announced
Albuquerque police on Monday investigated two homicides that occurred in a span of just over 12 hours.
Just before midnight on Sunday, officers responded to a shooting at Volcanes Commons apartments on the 6900 block of Glenrio NW, police spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos said in a news release.
Nico Taylor, 35, had a gunshot wound and died at the scene, Gallegos said.
Markel Pinto, 30, turned himself in to police on Monday and admitted to the shooting, police said.
Police said that Pinto was on surveillance video with a handgun prior to the shooting, and video footage showed him yelling.
Pinto and Taylor both lived at the apartment complex and were arguing about their different perspectives of Native American culture prior to the shooting, according to police. Police said both men are Native American.
Detectives reportedly found a handgun in Pinto鈥檚 apartment and charged him with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence.
At around 12:15 p.m. Monday, officers responded to the Encore Apartments, 810 Eubank NE, for a stabbing, Gallegos said.
One person had died at the scene.
The person who died wasn鈥檛 identified and no suspect information was released on Monday.
