Salsa and green chile burger contests return
The Battle of the Salsas and the Green Chile Cheeseburger Challenge return to the New Mexico State Fair this year.
Here鈥檚 what to know about these fiery competitions near the Agriculture Building at the state fairgrounds.
The Battle of the Salsas will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. The first 250 fairgoers can sample and judge salsas from local producers.
The Green Chile Cheeseburger Challenge starts at noon Monday, Sept. 14. A panel of judges and a limited number of public tasters will select the winners from among these eight restaurants:
Badlands Burgers & Brews (Aztec)
Effingbar and Grill (Albuquerque)
Fat Sats Bar and Grill (Belen)
Fuego 505 (Albuquerque)
La Villa Burgers & Boba (Santa Rosa)
Smash & Shake (Albuquerque)
Sparky鈥檚 Burgers, BBQ & Espresso (Hatch)
Stackers Burger Company (Albuquerque)
鈥淭hese competitions are a delicious way to support local food and celebrate New Mexico agriculture,鈥� New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte said in a news release. 鈥淚f you eat, you鈥檙e a part of agriculture 鈥� and these events bring that message home.鈥�
