SPEAK UP!
Opinion: Speak Up!
Have you looked at a ballot using RANKED CHOICE VOTING? It is too long and complicated, especially to the less or uneducated. EN
If New Mexico is serious about encouraging ELECTRIC VEHICLES, maybe they should use some of the surplus revenues to replace the terminated $7,500 federal tax credit. JB
We need a GOVERNOR who isn't afraid to debate other candidates, and explain what they want to do to improve our state and how they can do that. We don't need a governor just because they could be our first female Native American governor. That will not solve our problems. KV
The article about ELECTRIC VEHICLES is right on point. Mandates don’t work. The big reason people chose to purchase electric vehicles was the $7,500 kickback. Why do New Mexicans continue to vote Democrat? Because Democrats continue to buy votes with giveaways. SS
Behemoth Oracle and partners seek to start PROJECT JUPITER in southern New Mexico. They know the authorities are eager for jobs and are either unsophisticated or corruptible. Team Oracle knows there's plenty of water for its needs. Once the AI god plants itself, people must go without. Fools. AH
To the ARMY RECRUITING GROUP enjoying breakfast on April 24 at Sunnyside: A heartfelt thanks for paying for the meal of my wife and me. I was, and am, honored and humbled. I will continue to pay it forward. Be safe and Godspeed. BB
Threats to our democracy do not only come from bullets and assault rifles but also from insipid and myopic JOURNALISM — especially from local and national legacy news outlets. BF
The ϼ reports by 2032, 82% of New Mexico dealers' cars must be electric even though only 3% of CARS sold today are electric. The New Mexico Court of Appeals refused to change the mandate. There's a relevant principle in law — it's not the court's duty to reverse foolish laws. JM
I agree with Sunday's op-ed that TSA agents should be federal employees. Democrats shouldn’t hold them hostage over the budget. Several hundred agents have quit. All five of New Mexico Democratic members of Congress need to get a spine and not just follow leadership without question. Very sad for New Mexico and the country. CL
If the city has a budget deficit, they should consider trimming the MAYOR’S STAFF. As indicated on the city website, there are 54 staff members. DP
If DEB HAALAND is elected governor of New Mexico she will be a figurehead executive. She will serve only on behalf of progressives and a progressive agenda. Although she has been in high profile positions, she is not a proven leader that we can all count on. RF
Voters, have you forgotten the strong, negative articles referencing DEB HAALAND, as congresswoman or the U.S. Interior secretary, lacked of experience, knowledge and ability to do the job? She accomplished nothing for New Mexico. As governor, Deb Haaland will accomplish nothing for New Mexico. WR
On a recent visit to Santa Fe I noticed the number of RESIST signs in front yards as I drove through affluent areas — and panhandlers and homeless people. The Democrat political trifecta held over New Mexico for the last 100 years is what needs resisting if things are to change for the positive. TS
Being Native American is appreciated, but not enough. DEB HAALAND, being self-proclaimed "fierce,” needs to show the courage to debate Sam Bregman and present the substance of her ideas. Bregman has detailed plans, especially handling crime and children with guns. Haaland needs to share her blueprint beyond the goal of being the first. RS
So, DIEGO PAVIA was given a hard pass at the NFL Draft but signed with the Baltimore Ravens. I suppose someone should warn the groundkeepers at the 32 NFL stadiums to keep a tarp on the midfield team emblem. BD
Gary Hays, of Bernalillo, says undocumented IMMIGRANTS come for "promises of glamour and riches." Lies. Immigrants who cross our border are here to work so they and their family might survive. Most hope to go home someday, too, but this attitude means our immigration policy will remain inhumane. Shame. RL
With the SUPREME COURT’S DECISION this week, we go from using race to ensure minorities are fairly represented in Congress to MAGA states using race to ensure they are not. GC
I have to laugh at how REPUBLICANS are now demanding that Democrats tone down their rhetoric. Criticizing the president is a far cry from inciting violence. And have they even heard the president? They should clean up their own house. JH
For all of the hype about PROJECT JUPITER being an environmentally low-impact project, how come there isn’t any use of wind or solar power generation? This is New Mexico, after all. No artificial intelligence data center should be built without wind or solar that includes generating excess power that goes back into the community. RNS
Ben Ray Luján is a favorite of mine but this time around we get to show support for a Bernie Sanders-type Democrat. MATT DODSON checks all the right boxes so let's give him support, even as an underdog. CE
POTUS, Supreme Court, Congress: It's all POLITICS all the time. What about the American people; affordability, health care, etc.? What about friends and allies; NATO, Ukraine, standing up for democracy and those less fortunate? How about cutting out inflammatory rhetoric claiming immigrants are criminals? The vast majority aren't. MY
The DOJ has indicted JAMES COMEY for threatening the president's life by posting a photo of sea shells spelling out "86 47.” During the Biden administration, now-DOD Secretary Pete Hegseth and other Republicans posted images of Biden with "86 46", selling T-shirts and other items. Will they be indicted? AF
