I voted for Sam Bregman for governor in the Democratic primary, but unfortunately, he did not prevail. Since I still don't believe Deb Haaland is the best candidate, I was planning to vote for Ken Miyagishima, but the COURTS have now possibly blocked that option. Democracy? RF
We should advocate for free MRI or CT brain scans by health insurance companies for anyone over 40 years of age to screen for BRAIN ANEURYSMS or any other anomalies. The time for such screening is long overdue. EN
Two excellent pieces in June 21 Sunday Journal: "Reclaiming the facts about our healthcare" by Veronica Mireles, where she takes to task a prior column by attorney Cherie LaCour, and Tom Besson's article about APS locking us out of school OUTDOOR TRACKS we all paid for. Kudos to both. DC
The Albuquerque police officers convicted in the city's embarrassing DWI scandal will spend more time waiting to be sentenced than they spent training to be police officers. Hopefully they learn more during their SENTENCING than they did at the police academy. RB
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth decided that the FLU VACCINE should be optional in the military. Now, the flu is sweeping through airmen at Lackland Air Force Base, affectomg training and readiness and possibly even causing the death of one airman. A sad medical decision by an incompetent leader. AF
Isn鈥檛 it ironic that the governor and the mayor condemn FEDERAL AGENTS for not enforcing federal law governing drug trafficking (June 25 Journal), but actively resist federal agents enforcing federal law regarding immigration? KH
NM Department of Education just released STUDENT PROFICIENCY numbers and again they are low, despite increases in funding. Perhaps an audit is needed to see how the funding was spent. My bet is increased administrative salaries and new furnishings for offices instead of going toward student proficiency improvement. MBB
Please don't ignore the tone deaf debacle of the mayor participating in the 72-OUNCE STEAK challenge when there are unhomed people everywhere. Is it because he got negative comments about it on his Facebook page or because he only did it for the photo op and didn't really compete? AW
Deb Haaland said this week she still has $32,000 of student loan debt at 65 years old. I'd like to see her interview a personal accountant, financial planner and tax advisor for LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR. JT
If Republicans want to fix SOCIAL SECURITY, perhaps they should start by raising the cap because it is ridiculously low. It no longer matches some of today鈥檚 high salaries. And they can even do it without hurting their billionaire donors. JH
The short fix for CYFD is to take it out of the government鈥檚 hands. Have someone manage it who knows how to run a business and knows CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. Politicians should have nothing to do with this. KP
That SPRING FORWARD seems so long ago. It was tough, but the extra sunlight during the summer is worth it. Except when it鈥檚 windy, though some new patio furniture ended up in my backyard. CB
A UFC fighter at a recent White House event shockingly claimed Michelle Obama is a man. The resulting silence from our president and Republicans was shameful, but predictable. How would they respond if other former FIRST LADIES were called ugly, stupid, lesbians, prostitutes or gold diggers? The outrage would come fast and furious. ML
I was going to ask Ms. Google for a list of disaster movies featuring Washington, D.C., to watch on the FOURTH OF JULY. Then, I realized I could just watch the news. MB
It's no surprise that the president falls asleep in meetings. A worse thing is, the president's Cabinet discusses nothing about the conditions in America or how to make things better. What are they there for? These are supposed to be America's LEADERS. Not a social club. SS
Another day with no communication from PRESBYTERIAN around the cancellation of its Medicare Advantage Plan for 2027 鈥� other than hundreds of comments online from concerned members. MB
How can anyone be opposed to verifying CITIZENSHIP in order to vote in NM? This is not about the protection of voter rights, it is the continued furtherance of the one-party control that exists here. Anyone who has lived here long enough can smell the political corruption a mile away. GH
I鈥檓 very happy to see a new MANAGING EDITOR for the Journal. It has turned from a newspaper into a happy-news paper. Also, I, like many others would like to see baseball box scores instead of line scores in the sports section. SS
