The mayor, governor, state representatives, attorney general and sheriff WANT ANSWERS from the DEA and Department of Justice on their fentanyl strategy. My question to them: Whose administration was in charge of the feds in 2023 and 2024? SC
The governor has us using our tax dollars to pay for FREE DAYCARE. That's not only an oxymoron but also blatant ageist discrimination. l have to pay $6,000 per month for my care. Also, the disabled require daily care. Where's the break for caregivers? The break is only for parents? RN
Large and small communities and companies throughout the U.S. are planning patriotic and respectful celebrations for our 250TH ANNIVERSARY. Trump鈥檚 plans will embarrass the U.S. in front of the entire world. JPO
I am so impressed with the courageous Mr. Howell, the DEA agent who risked the whole bureaucracy coming down on him by filing a whistleblower complaint about the DEA鈥檚 strategy/practice of allowing copious amounts of lethal FENTANYL to 鈥渨alk鈥� onto Albuquerque streets, killing an untold number of people. My PET PEEVE is the pop-up ads that put you through a very long and boring video before a company tells you what magic elixir it is selling. Yes, and at an amazingly discounted price. How many people actually stay for the whole spiel? CE
Our governor says she is outraged at the DEA for walking fentanyl into our state. She also claimed the feds didn鈥檛 help after NATURAL DISASTERS. I find it interesting that she neglected to mention that this occurred during the Biden administration. SS
Regarding APS STUDENT PROFICIENCY: I am a retired teacher who watched APS change math and reading programs every few years and teachers had to learn each one. The data that the Journal published showed a direct correlation between regular attendance, proficiencies and graduation rates. Who is responsible for attendance? PB
How do we in this state end up with upstanding individuals, such as former GOP Treasurer KIMBERLY SKAGGS, who allegedly fled the scene after running over and killing a bicyclist? This is a public servant who represented all of us, supposedly looking out for our best interests. I don鈥檛 think so. RF
State leaders blame the DEA for turning New Mexico into a fentanyl laboratory. The feds will counter that sanctuary policies and support for lax border enforcement built the lab. Any big settlement will likely require New Mexico to repeal its SANCTUARY LAWS. MR
I'd like to know the UNM faculty members' recommendation on retaining Law School Dean Camille Carey, and whether they used whacky RANKED CHOICE VOTING in their decision-making. JT
I recommend everyone take a drive to see the new Route 66 WELCOME SIGN on Central. I felt great memories of driving on Route 66 with family. Shockingly, shortly after admiring the sign you won't be able to unsee the devastation of the area with multitudes of unhoused people and trash. DD
Kudos to organizers of GREAT AMERICAN RACE activities. One-hundred-twenty-five cars rolled into Balloon Fiesta Park for fantastic welcome festivities instead of holding them on Route 66 like all other host cities did. This way the drivers did not have to see our homeless population and no one got shot. SDG
New Mexico's food banks reject canned goods that have expired "BEST BY" dates. Canned goods typically last much longer than that. California is implementing date labels: 鈥漛est if used by鈥� for quality and 鈥渦se by鈥� for safety. Let's fill our food banks by copying that California law. KC
Jeff Tucker's column in the Sunday Journal (June 28) regarding the DIRTY COPS/THOMAS CLEAR was spot on. If all of the defendants who have pled guilty do not receive significant prison time, it will signify that the New Mexico criminal justice system is irreparably broken. SM
To MBB in Speak Up (Sunday Journal June 28): Maybe we should throw money directly at the students. See how smart they get. You can take a student to school but you can't make them think. People are so quick to blame the SCHOOL SYSTEMS when the blame starts home. RW
Pinning the blame for the fentanyl distribution on the DEA raises the question: Just where exactly were APD AND BCSO during all of this? Apparently asleep at the switch, it would seem to the casual observer. DPS
The WNBA should be ashamed of itself. Allowing a player to knee CAITLIN CLARK in the groan, throat punch her, and then kick and trample her is disgusting and more than a one-game penalty should have been given. The WNBA has become a racist organization. JMW
I save the Journal COMICS PAGE for my grandchildren to read. Lately, the Luann comic strip has adult situations which aren鈥檛 funny and are inappropriate for children. It鈥檚 time to refresh the comics page. DN
POTUS frequently claims no TAXPAYER DOLLARS will be used for his grandiose projects. Don't believe it. His lies and misinformation shouldn't fool anyone by now. He's been at it his whole life. The billions spent on all the things he wants to do cost taxpayers dearly. MY
